| 1. Well-written: | ||
| 1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. | 1) If the name of the general store constructed by Homer E. Little was named the Little General Store, it should be capitalized accordingly. If the general store was not named after Homer E. Little (or his family), the general store should be referred to as "the general store." Clarity is not improved by using "Little" as a modifier because there is only one general store discussed in the article.
2) In the History section, "Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad" contains a capitalized and linked "Railroad." However, "railroad" is not capitalized nor linked in "Illinois Central Gulf railroad." 3) "The community was established following the construction of a general store and New Orleans Great Northern Railroad train depot in 1906 and enjoyed success as a hub for the timber industry in the early 20th century" is slightly overloaded. Consider rephrasing. 4) "Locals of the community pronounce the name as 'Omer.'" Redundant. Consider replacing "Locals of the community" with "Locals" or "Members of the community." 5) "Federal agricultural policies during the Great Depression decreased interest in farming in the area, while forestry resources were being depleted" is slightly vague. Among whom did interest in farming decrease? Why were forestry resources being depleted? 6) Consider reformatting the quote in the Decline section. Personally, I would keep all of the poem's content within the quote block.
| 1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. | Follows MoS well overall. A few notes:
1) "In short order" and "enjoyed success" are somewhat informal. 2) You must use the convert template to provide metric conversions when mentioning distance in miles.
| 2. Verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check: | ||
| 2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. | Excellent breadth of references. All citations are formatted properly. | |
| 2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose). | Placement of citations appears good. | |
| 2c. it contains no original research. | ||
| 2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. | Good. | |
| 3. Broad in its coverage: | ||
| 3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. | Covers content very well. | |
| 3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). | ||
| 4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. | ||
| 5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. | ||
| 6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio: | ||
| 6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. | ||
| 6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. | ||
| 7. Overall assessment. | The article is well written and covers the topic appropriately. Most errors are related to grammar and composition. The article should pass following the revision of these errors. | |
- @QueenPeppers: All fixes addressed! Let me know if you need anything else. Jordano53 14:04, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Jordano53: Great! A few minor comments: first, I believe you should cite Source 4 after mentioning the estimated 1967 population in the lead (I could be wrong). Second, do you know of any population estimates that are more recent? I think it would be a valuable piece of information if so (though I know finding population data for unincorporated communities can prove difficult). Finally, I would consider expanding on the physical geography of the community. I will mark the article as passed now, as these changes are not crucial immediately. I enjoyed reading the article I am impressed by the wide variety of sources used. QueenPeppers (talk) 15:48, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- @QueenPeppers: Because that figure is cited by reference four in the prose, you typically do not also cite in the lead. I was unable to find any estimates that were more recent, but can do some more digging. I had the same question, though. I can also look more into physical geography.
