Talk:Penicillin

Discovery

The antibiotic properties of penicillin had been researched for more than a decade in Clodomiro Picado's laboratory before Fleming's fortuitous "discovery." I ask that you please correct the information or at least add a comment making it clear that there are "two discoverers" of penicillin.

That's why we have the article History of penicillin, where he's already mentioned. Adding him to this article would be undue weight per medical reliable sources. Graham87 (talk) 05:41, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Dubious tag

  • Penicillin V (phenoxymethylpenicillin) is produced by adding the precursor phenoxyacetic acid to the medium in which a genetically modified strain[dubious – discuss] of the penicillium fungus is being cultured.

Why does this have a dubious tag? Is it because strictly speaking the strain doesn't have to be genetically modified? In practice most biologics are produced by GMOs. No pharmaceutical company producing Penicillin V at industrial scale is going to use a naturally occurring strain of Penicillium chrysogenum. I can't read the mind of who put the tag though so I don't know how to address their concerns. ເສລີພາບ (talk) 05:33, 31 August 2025 (UTC)
