Preservation
@Einsof: Why did you add a cn tag in the Preservation section? There is a source citation and it seems to support the material: "far fewer sharp noise features ... noise level ... is lower". Did you mean to add a "failed verificaton" tag instead? GA-RT-22 (talk) 06:15, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- "Generally produces a better sound than normal playback" is simultaneously a broad an imprecise statement, and I do not think it is supported by the source provided, which is two authors prototyping an optical readback system with a few records. In hindsight I probably would have just removed it, but if it is to be retained then I think it should be clarified and attributed. Einsof (talk) 12:33, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- {{failed verification}} would have been the correct tag. GA-RT-22 (talk) 14:04, 15 July 2025 (UTC)
- Ok, but digging a bit more it seems this source is about (or related to) IRENE, which we have an entire article for. And our article for laser turntable also does not seem to be linked from this section, but probably should be. Einsof (talk) 15:31, 15 July 2025 (UTC)

Tiny Vinyl
I know my contribution can be improved. I wasn't sure just what to include or how to word it, and it doesn't look good right now. I saw the article on ProQuest but a free version doesn't seem to be available.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:06, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
Oops. There is a free version. Fixed. Not complete.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:08, 18 August 2025 (UTC)
- I don't see where it says "admitted the audio quality was not the same". GA-RT-22 (talk) 07:33, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- The actual quote is "It's impossible that Tiny Vinyl will ever replace the audiophile-level quality of a full-sized 12-inch record. However, we believe that the average fan doesn't want that." How would you word that? I thought it was important to make the point that the high quality of vinyl audio couldn't be achieved.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 20:10, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- We must be looking at two different articles. The one I'm looking at doesn't have that quote. It's hard to tell because the weird side scrolling partially defeats search in my browser but I'm sure that quote isn't in there. GA-RT-22 (talk) 22:10, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
- I didn't check the Press Reader version of the article to see that it was complete. Once I saw I wasn't blocked I went ahead. Do you have a way to access ProQuest? Anyone with a North Carolina library card can use it.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:09, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
- No but I'll take your word for it. GA-RT-22 (talk) 21:30, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

Records don't always have spiral grooves
According to the lead text, "[a record] is an analog sound storage medium in the form of a flat disc with an inscribed, modulated spiral groove." Records only including locked grooves, such as this one, are not included in this definition, but they are still undeniably records. Worms and weird fishes (talk) 21:55, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- A locked groove is still a spiral, although a degenerate one. See List of spirals. However, it's a violation of WP:LEAD to include this definition without it being verified in the article with a source citation. GA-RT-22 (talk) 22:34, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
