Jetten successfully defended and implemented several major pieces of climate legislation. In 2022, alongside State Secretary Marnix van Rij, he secured the publication of the Minimum CO₂ Price Electricity Generation Act, which financially incentivized companies to reduce their emissions. In 2023, he created the European Climate Act Implementation Act, formally raising the Dutch 2030 emission reduction target from 49 to 55 percent to align with EU standards and codifying the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. Jetten was a member of the Trilateral Commission David Rockefeller Fellows from April 2020 until his ministerial appointment in January 2022.
