For the record, there were additional attempts to add this again in Dec 2018. It is presumably a hoax. It may also be related to this sockpuppetry case: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Freecomwireless. Peacock (talk) 16:17, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

@Meters Is there anything else that can be done to prevent this from continuing? 10 years is a ridiculously long time for someone to be committed to a hoax like this. The last instance of this hoax was live for almost two months before you reverted it, and it was only noticed because another IP made changes to it a couple days ago. I see there were multiple SPIs; what about a LTA report? Would indefinite semi-protection be appropriate? I₂Overcome ^talk 04:35, 13 October 2025 (UTC)

This case is listed in my personal list of SPIs I follow in User:Meters/SPIs, but I think it's been a few years since I last saw them active on the Ruby or Emerald articles. I have a very large watchlist, and somehow I missed this last attempt. We could blacklist the Freecomwireless domain that has used to host the various bogus refs, but even that would not be sufficient since they often instead use a seemingly real site (International Gemological Laboratories and Institute) that has nothing about the supposed gems. I don't think there is enough disruption to warrant permanent protection, particularly now that user:Favonian has applied a long term pblock to two extensive IP ranges.
