- Thanks for the review! Since this is a Japanese player in a Japanese league, why should their statistics be conformed to American-league specific representations? Japanese ball is at least a little different, and the stats reporting reflects that. Also, his WBC play is mentioned in the "2026" section of the article. -- mikeblas (talk) 15:40, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- I understand that Japanese/NPB ball are different from American/MLB ball. I believe {{WP:BASESTYLEPL}} is not country-specific advice on formatting and writing a player page.
- Generally, I think the prose could be improved to reach the "well-written" criteria. HonkBase (talk) 22:43, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
Reviewer suggestions
Below are my suggestions for improving the quality of writing of this article.
Pre-Professional
- Consider changing to “playing career” and “amateur career”
- Many potential links. Consider if MOS:UNDERLINK
- Unreferenced sentence: “Yūya Gunji was a year ahead of him on the Little Senior team.”
The Rakuten Era
- Change to team name (per baseball style guide)
- Consider moving NPB draft results to this section
2017
- Unclear what “squad” refers to.
- Consider if this is MOS:UNDELINK
- Is his professional debut his NPB debut? Is the Eastern League not professional?
- Typo: “first”
- Can you distinguish between walks and hbp?
- Is the Outstanding Player Award listed twice?
- 2-2/3 can be represented using ⁄
- Different length dashes (en and em) are used for win-loss record
2018
- Second and third paragraphs can be combined with first.
- Replace “they” used in second paragraph.
- Was his rehabilitation from an injury?
- Cross link to Manabu Mima
2019
- Use of numbers varies between first two paragraphs. MOS:NUMBER
2020
- Change “novel coronavirus” to COVID-19. Can cross link to a specific “impact of the COVID-19 pandemic” article on Japan or sports
- Why is “dangerous pitch” in quotes? MOS:SCAREQUOTES
- Consider replacing “mere”
- Can this sentence be rewritten to be concise and clarify tense: “Including this game, he has continued to make appearances consisting of short innings”
- Can this sentence be moved to only NPB appearance: “His major league appearances for the year were limited to the single game mentioned previously;”
- Is “official game appearance” a technical NPB term? Consider using games pitched
2021
- Remove comma at end of second paragraph.
- Consider combining first two paragraphs and some of the final five paragraphs.
2022
- Replace “utilized” with “used”
- “First start of the season” is unclear. I assume this is the first start in NPB.
- Consider combining paragraphs.
2023
- Clarify/rewrite “make his case”
- Normalize capitalization of Opening Day throughout the article
- Link to Takayuki Kishi
- Clarify “irregular schedules” (I believe the typical schedule is 6 days a week) and “team circumstances”
- Change “revealed” to “said” MOS:SAID
2024
- Consider combining first two paragraphs.
- Clarify the “emergency”
- Link to save (baseball)
2025
- Consider combining first three paragraphs
- Crosslink Tatsuru Yanagimachi and Yuya Ogo, setup man, Japan national baseball team, South Korea national baseball team
- Consider moving international activity to international/”national team career”
2026
- Update national team activity—did he pitch in WBC? Consider moving to international/”national team career”
- Update any NPB performance
Player Characteristics
- Consider renaming “Player profile” per [WP:WikiProject Baseball/Player style advice/Sample biography]]
- Can cross link to pitch types.
- Should some/all of this be moved to 2024 season?
Statistics and Awards
Pitching Statistics by Season
- Subheading not necessary (no other sub-sections)
- Consider where this is necessary. Player style sample bio does not include statistics, and neither do many good articles. This information is easily available via NPB, Baseball Reference, FanGraphs, etc.
- ===National Team Career===
- Move above “Player characteristics”
- Add 2025 Korea series and 2026 WBC
- Consider adding youth career
- Link to Japan national team
References
- Many references include archive links but do not indicate that links are live. Review “url-status=”. For example, Ref #109 is live and “url-status=” is blank.
- Do any references have authors?
- Names of websites are not translated for many references.
External links
- Group statistics pages (Cube, NPB.com) by template:baseballstats
- Provide translation of other external links. It is unclear to English readers what these link to. MOS:LAYOUTEL HonkBase (talk) 20:26, 20 July 2026 (UTC)
Hi, I'll be starting the GA review. Unfortunately, I think this needs a fair amount of revision.
Style
Please review WP:BASESTYLEPL for the baseball player style guide and WP:MOSBIO for the broader style guide for biographies. There are a lot of areas to improve. It appears this article is largely a translation of the Japanese wiki page and, as an editor of many American baseball pages, this article is not "well written" per WP:GACR6
The lead section be improved MOS:Lead, the Statistics section should be reviewed to determine if it's necessary, and the prose for many seasons should be edited to be clear, concise, and not too technical.
Updated
The infobox and his international career section do not appear to be up-to-date. His inclusion in the 2026 WBC roster would be relevant to an English-speaking audience.
