Merge proposal (May 2025)

- The result of this discussion was not to merge. 2406:3003:2007:1F3:B4FC:62FA:6BF7:F6CD (talk) 05:32, 28 July 2025 (UTC)
Context: anonymous IP 203.116.55.2 (talk) proposed merging Scouting and Guiding in Singapore with Singapore Scout Association on 16 May 2025 by tagging only the former page. Klbrain (talk · contribs) subsequently added the template on the latter and proposed merge direction of former→latter. No rationale was provided nor discussion started.
- Oppose merge: Presumably a good faith proposal based on the short text of Scouting and Guiding in Singapore. However, that page contains information about Girl Guides and also units/troops of other international Scout/Guide organizatins that are active in the country — information that would not belong on the Singapore Scout Association page. Existence of Scouting and Guiding in Singapore is consistent with many other stubs for respective countries (e.g. Brunei, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines just to name a few). Such pages serve a useful navigational function; I see no issue with their existence. — 2406:3003:2007:1F3:B4FC:62FA:6BF7:F6CD (talk) 06:09, 21 July 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose - Scouts in Singapore are broader than just the Singapore Scout Association and have included units of other national organizations. The Singapore Scout Association's was only formed in 1965 and is the successor to The Boy Scouts Association, Singapore branch. Record of that previous organization belongs in this article. Historically, early Boy Scouts in Singapore included a number of units independent of the Singapore Scout Association and its predecessor. Scouting and Guiding in Singapore is an article in a series consisting of many Wikipedia articles on Scouting and Guiding in individual countries that should not be disrupted by a merger. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.42.10.20 (talk) 10:44, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose - merging to Singapore Scout Association would be completely ignoring the "Guiding" part of the title. Bduke (talk) 08:16, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
