Strong technical source

This article published on 3 June—before the 4 June launch—has a good deal of information on the constellation, how the orbit raises are done, where the sats are ending up, etc. Will be a good source for improving the article. Evaluating SpaceX’s Starlink Push by Danny Lentz, 3 June 2020.

properties

may un pls elaborate more on the properties used to make this satellite and the positive impact on the environment. ~2025-42745-98 (talk) 10:15, 24 December 2025 (UTC)

"Shut down"

Hi @Ronnnaldo7: and all. Following up on my edit and the reversion for how to describe the Iranian gov't's affect on Starlink service. The currently cited source (Forbes) states "shut down" in the title, but the quotes within the article rather describe it as "disrupted" or "jamm[ed]". These seem more accurate descriptions for what has happened. IMO, "shut down" describes active interaction with the starlink terminals, satalites, etc to turn the service off (100% un-usable). Rather, disrupted/jammed better describe the current situation where the service is degraded through interference. Happy to work together and find consensus on the phrasing! The exact terminology varies across sources, from "shut down" to "jammed" to "blocked" to "disabled" to "disrupted" to "no internet" to "total blackout", etc. Based on these sources, for example, 1, 2, 3, I believe "shut down" is still the proper term here. Also, the term is in reference to the internet connection, not the physical satellite. Ronnnaldo7 (talk) 07:44, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
What about this for consensus language "…attempted to shut down service through disruption of GPS signals in the country, with varying effectiveness". Dbsseven (talk) 17:44, 14 January 2026 (UTC) Dbsseven (talk) 17:44, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
I think we'll have to keep it as is based on the sources, at least until sources say differently. Some of the latest sources, for example 4 and 5, still use the terms "shut down", "jammed", and even "unusable". Ronnnaldo7 (talk) 07:39, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
Disagree. The WP text should summarize the the entire source material, not a single keyword. Those same sources say the shut down is incomplete and some traffic is getting through, though at lower speed and varying by location. The as-is language does not correctly summarize this reality, or how the attempted shutdown is being put into practice. Dbsseven (talk) 11:03, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
I've read through various different articles and sources, and while many note the earlier 80% packet loss, and even the recent "shut down", it seems the ensuing days led to varying degrees of shutting down success as well as some success by users to get around it, although relatively rarely. I'll go ahead and add something similar to your excerpt based on the information in the reliable sources. Ronnnaldo7 (talk) 17:40, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

Add Project Criticism sections

I think that the two current sections, "Impact on astronomy" and "Increased risk of satellite collision," could be combined into a single section called like "Project Criticism." This section could also include feedback from other countries. For example, recent news reports — "Iran and Russia have accused Starlink of violating international law, as SpaceX may be violating the 1967 Outer Space Treaty."
