The result of this discussion was to leave the page as-is as the article title should reflect the name of the artist as it appears on the album cover at the time of release.
Sunshower (Taeko Ohnuki album) → Sunshower (Taeko Onuki album) – Every major publication and resource (inclusing the artist's own social media profiles) use the spelling "Onuki" for her surname Shudsky (talk) 15:46, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- Weak oppose. The cover art has "Ohnuki". The article about the artist contains "{{DEFAULTSORT:Ohnuki, Taeko}}" and the body of that article uses "Ōnuki" (with a macron) and Discogs and AllMusic use "Ohnuki". The cover art of her Mignonne album also has "Ohnuki". The cover art of her Grey Skies album and the cover art of her two-album set also have "Ohnuki". The cover art of her 1987 A Slice of Life album also has "Ohnuki". It appears that she may have changed her preferred spelling of her last name sometime after 1987, but this article is about a 1977 album, and at the time she was consistently using "Ohnuki". It would be anachronistic to retroactively change the English spelling she was using when this album was released. — BarrelProof (talk) 21:10, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
- Is there a Wikipedia policy regarding this (the using of an artist's then-current name in the article title)? I've found examples of articles using an artist's present name within the article title for an album. See: Open Season (Sea Power album) (Sea Power were at that time known as "British Sea Power" which is prominently displayed on the album cover) and Rocket (Alex G album) (Alex G was at the time known as "(Sandy) Alex G"). But there are also instances where the original name is preserved, such as for the article No Way Out (Puff Daddy album). I'm inclined to agree with you here about this album, considering her name is displayed prominently with the spelling "Ohnuki" on the cover, but that also means that I'm now of the opinion that Open Season (Sea Power album) should be retitled to Open Season (British Sea Power album). What do you think? Shudsky (talk) 20:05, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
- I think I would support "British Sea Power", given its high prominence on the album cover and the time of its release (and the cited sources all use "British Sea Power". Alex G seems to have been renaming himself at the same time as releasing music from his album, and seems to have gone back-and-forth about it, and perhaps it could be argued that the shorter version was his "common name" at the time. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:23, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
