What are the disadvantages of this type of receiver?
It does not have any significant disadvantages and that is why it is so popular but one could cite i) its relative complexity and larger component count (typically one needs three transistors for a superhet up to the aduio amplifier stages, and only one for a super-regenerative receiver ii) susceptibility to image frequencies (the receiver will pick up another signal separated from the intended input signal by twice the IF frequency and lying on the other side of the local oscillator frequency. This problem can largely be eliminated by using a tuned front end to suit the desired band of frequencies iii) a superhet can be sensitive to adjacent channel interference and other forms of interference. Use of a double-tuned superhet (eg radio control receivers) helps to reduce the superhet's noise susceptibility
- Also mention that the local oscillator signal is a source of spurious emissions and can sometimes be detected a long way from the receiver. The practical consequence of this can be seen by anyone who's ever experienced a radar detector detector at work. The mixer stage can sometimes be overloaded by strong out-of-band signals which can produce interference. Hello WhaleFarm and thanks for all your improvements to this article. However, despite the improvements, the article fails criterion 2b since there are too many unreferenced paragraphs. Examples are the paragraphs starting with "The superheterodyne required an oscillator, increasing cost.", "Later commentary distinguished between patent disclosure and practical development", "In a typical arrangement the local oscillator is operated above the received frequency (high-side injection),", and "The RF stage provides the initial frequency-selective filtering and, in some designs, gain for the received signal.". According to criterion 2b, these and similar passages require inline citations "no later than the end of the paragraph". This is especially a problem in the second half of the article, where some sections are mostly unsourced. I suggest that you add all the relevant references before a renomination.
A few other observations
- WP:EARWIG detects no copyvios
- green are parts that operate at the intermediate frequency (IF) awkward phrasing; maybe better: "green parts operate at..."
- more suitable for amplification and filtering add period after "filtering"
- Levy filed his original disclosure replace "Levy" with "Lévy"
- imperfections in the local oscillator further degrades performance replace "degrades" with "degrade"
- "and the image occurs at \(f_{RF} + 2f_{IF} = 163.8\) MHz" is this supposed to be inside a math-tag?

Before I got too far into this, I first went back and looked at the first GAN by Phlsph7 and I see that it failed due to unreferenced material. Unfortunately, I'm finding the same problem still exists. I'm seeing unreferenced statements such as:
It was also recognized that amplification was easier at lower frequencies with the tubes then available, and that stable, high-gain amplification was difficult when the tuned frequency had to be varied across a wide range
but had not developed this idea into a complete receiver.
This removed the need to adjust the volume as the radio was tuned.
The superheterodyne receiver played a significant role in the complex patents and licensing in early radio.
This reflects an early recognition that the heterodyne process need not produce an audible output directly.
These developments form the technical background to later patent claims.

I think we may be drawing the line differently on what criterion 2a requires. The full wording is:
- reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose);
The second part matters. After the first GA review, I explained that some of the plain-English technical explanation summarized material cited elsewhere in the article. In one of the examples you identified, the second sentence is simply a restatement of a sourced quotation immediately before it. The result now looks like this:
- "technical statement from the source"[1], followed by a plain-English explanation of the same statement.[1]
The two citation locations are now explicit, but I do not think repeating the same citation adds much.
I agree that "could reasonably be challenged" is not always easy to apply. However, a statement such as:

is not a disputed technical claim today. It describes an engineering limitation discussed extensively in the contemporary literature, and it was already supported by several references nearby and elsewhere in the article (many of the old IRE, radiola, Herold, Neutrodyn patents, radiotron, I can find many others). I have nevertheless added some of those references directly to the passage so there can be no uncertainty about the support.
This seems consistent with WP:CITEFOOT, which says that citations are normally placed after a clause or sentence, or at the end of a paragraph when they support the paragraph as a whole. WP:INTEGRITY likewise emphasizes that it should be clear which source supports which text, rather than requiring a citation after every sentence. I understand that WP:CITEEVERYTHING recommends very dense citation, but that is an essay rather than the GA criterion itself.
I was surprised that the nomination was failed after roughly thirty minutes. I understand that WP:GAFAIL allows a quick failure when an issue identified in an earlier review has still not been adequately addressed. In this case, though, the underlying material was already sourced. The concern was mainly the distance between particular statements and the citations supporting them, and I was able to make the requested changes quickly. Had the issue been raised during the review, I would have been glad to work through every example with you.
There is also a real organizational problem in documenting technical history. The mature engineering (in this case 1940s) is well documented in later handbooks, but the history has to be assembled from many shorter contemporary papers, patents, and discussions. Organizing the article source by source would make it read like a literature review and would break up the technical and chronological account. I have instead tried to organize it by subject and chronology so that it reads as an encyclopedia article, while citing the individual claims to the sources that support them. I have a bookcase full of relevant sources, it took 100 sources to find a reasonably comprehensive set. The biggest issue I would have with the article is that I have glossed over everything that is not AM radio, that is still a large task, but all of the theory is already covered.
I am not arguing against inline citation or text-source integrity. I am trying to distinguish between genuinely unsupported material and well-sourced material where the citation was judged to be too far away. I think I have now addressed the latter throughout the article.
I would appreciate your thoughts on that distinction, and I would be grateful if you would take another look at the revised article.
