Talk:Tahmasp II

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Untitled

I believe Tahmasp II was murdered in 1740, after Nadir Shah had crowned himself shah and on the orders of Nadir Shah's son Rida Quli; this piece seems to say that he died in 1732, prior to Nadir Shah's coronation in 1736.

Not Tahmasp II

@Mv1388: Please stop and edit warring and see https://www.christies.com/lot/lot-5556141/?intObjectID=5556141. It simply says 'Tahmasp' not 'Tahmasp II'. Please take your concerns here. HistoryofIran (talk) 14:23, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

It said late safavid and on the pictur written tahmasp II Mv1388 (talk) 14:06, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
No, it doesn't say 'Tahmasp II', it simply says 'Tahmasp'. Yes, it does indeed say 'Late Safavid' which is because that's when the picture was made. --HistoryofIran (talk) 14:17, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
crown of Tahmasp I never same this picture you can see other pictur of tahmasp I and comper this pictur Mv1388 (talk) 14:26, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
Says who? What source do you have for that? Moreover, there's no rule that says a ruler can't have different crowns, nor that a image can't have errors. Ultimately the image doesn't say 'Tahmasp II', and that's what matters. I think our discussion is over. --HistoryofIran (talk) 14:27, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
if you know persian language on the picture written " شاه طهماسب ثانی" Mv1388 (talk) 14:28, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
Moreover, the exact image can also be found here , where it still simply says 'Tahmasp' and even says '17th Century', a period when Tahmasp II had not even ruled yet. --HistoryofIran (talk) 14:40, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

@HistoryofIran: @Noorullah21:, I'd like input on which image best represents Tahmasp II. The coin from his reign is a historical artifact (and is used in similar articles) while the later illustration is posthumous and imaginative. Fróis (talk) 16:57, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

The depiction is posthumous but it’s hardly imaginative. Astabaradi was a contemporary of Tahmasp and Nader Shah (at their courts), and Nader’s biographer. Noorullah (talk) 21:37, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
