Chain of events
Can somebody put together the chain of events?
The Guardian says that Pettersson was posing with children, who were warned to flee by Eskandar. The Mail (in general less reliable) says that by the time he was posing for the photograph, he was already stained with the assistant's blood, and the 41-year-old teacher told the children to flee. Were there two posings, or is the chain of events still hazy?
I know that the details are utterly horrible, but we need to make the chronology clear. '''tAD''' (talk) 22:01, 23 October 2015 (UTC)
- The article also doesn't mention how the perpetrator died - suicide, by the police? GiantSnowman 12:32, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
- GiantSnowman: It was in the lead, but I do realise that the narrative looked incomplete without the addition in the main. Thanks for pointing it out. '''tAD''' (talk) 14:19, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
Speculative
No Swedish sources mention the "I am you father"-bit. All that is mentioned in Swedish articles are that when he entered the school, he posed with two kids who thought he looked like Darth Vader. Mentioned by the police is that the clothing indicates "hate-crime" (which by the helmet would mean WW2 Germany look a like). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.254.138.229 (talk) 20:26, 10 November 2015 (UTC)
If he even attended a church in his life he would be branded Christian killer on this website with the word Christian posted about 18 times, but because you are all a bunch of leftist fascists you fail to mention the Pentagram and black clothes he wore during the killing or the fact that he was active in Satanic/Atheist communities. Very convenient. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/10/23/17/2DB545D900000578-3285883-image-a-106_1445619123660.jpg
Labeling as "terrorism"
Value-laden labels—such as calling an organization and/or individual a terrorist—may express contentious opinion and are best avoided unless widely used by reliable sources to describe the subject, in which case use in-text attribution. Avoid myth in its informal sense, and establish the scholarly context for any formal use of the term. If this is indeed an act of terrorism, then I think we can do better than finding a listing in a "book on terrorism". Elizium23 (talk) 14:08, 4 July 2020 (UTC)
- Nope. Not on Wikipedia - we use the term when appropriate.104.169.21.247 (talk) 17:14, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
Headwear misrepresentation
Even though the media did not report it in that way (accidentally or politically motivated at the time), the helmet is more similar to the Stahlhelm, worn by the Germans in WW I and II. This headwear worn by the terrorist would make more sense, because it aligns with the far-right nature of the attack. I would be glad to make an edit, but I am not sure how to source this? 80.112.128.46 (talk) 11:56, 16 January 2023 (UTC)
Similar cases listing
The Ikea Attack was not racially motivated, so why is it listed as similar because if it? --95.193.129.173 (talk) 10:09, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- The attacker was targetting white people specifically but his motive was not racism, maybe it should be removed as a similiar case? Salutations25 (talk) 02:25, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

I'll review this. I fixed one blatant citation problem just now. May take me a few days. From a preliminary look I'm a bit worried about the phrasing/breadth of coverage in this article. PARAKANYAA (talk) 01:21, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
| Rate | Attribute | Review Comment |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Well-written: | ||
| 1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. | Significant issues relating to grammar: not unfixable, though. For example there are punctuation/flow issues just in the lead. | |
| 1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. | No big issues. | |
| 2. Verifiable with no original research: | ||
| 2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. | No big issues. | |
| 2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose). | Most sources seem good, but I have questions about the reliability of Ekurd Daily and Rudaw, Though they aren't listed explicitly as unreliable or dubious sources anywhere I can see, and the articles seem solid, so they might be fine.
I didn't check this completely (in light of the other issues), but there are a few issues here.
| |
| 2c. it contains no original research. | From a cursory look, not an issue, though I didn't look too deep into it given the more pressing issues. | |
| 2d. it contains no copyright violations or plagiarism. |
| |
| 3. Broad in its coverage: | ||
| 3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. | From a cursory overview there seems to be quite a lot of relevant information in this article that could be included, that isn't. From checking the Swedish article there appears to be more information (from the book that is mentioned in the article) that is left out. Generally whatever the contents of the book are would be highly useful in expanding this article - though it likely would be difficult if you are not Swedish. I also managed to find an English language study that contains significant information on the perpetrator and the attack at large, some of which is relevant enough to be in the article. This is from a cursory search, so there may be more information. Overall it seems like this article needs to be expanded, which is probably an issue not easily fixable in this review. | |
| 3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). | No big issues. | |
| 4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. | No big issues. | |
| 5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. | No big issues. | |
| 6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio: | ||
| 6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. | Adequate rationale provided - though I have questions over if it fulfills the biographical part, it seems fine to me. | |
| 6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. | The mask seems to be a big part of the coverage of the event, seems relevant. Maybe it should be placed in the perpetrator section, but that's just a suggestion. | |
| 7. Overall assessment. | Not ready for GA status without significant work on the scope that exceeds the scope of this review. | |
No section for victims
Perp gets his whole section, but nothing about victims. 49.35.192.65 (talk) 08:03, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- Well, yes, because the victims are private people who had nothing to do with the execution of the act besides being somewhere at the wrong time. The criminal forfeited his right to privacy by committing mass murder, and is the entire reason it happened. PARAKANYAA (talk) 08:19, 24 September 2024 (UTC)

@PARAKANYAA How could a free image possibly be created? AFeatherlessBipehead (talk) 20:05, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- Someone could go to the school where it happened and photograph the school? Sweden allows (sort of) freedom of panorama for architecture. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:08, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- Ah ok. But can't it be justified since it is footage of the attack? AFeatherlessBipehead (talk) 20:15, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think so. It is replaceable which is the one thing. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:16, 30 November 2025 (UTC)
- But the article for the 2024 Eskişehir stabbing uses a free use photo even though someone could technically go to the mosque and take a photo. Same with the Eslöv school stabbing. AFeatherlessBipehead (talk) 07:32, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- Well, every case is different. I'm not sure if those would hold up either, honestly. PARAKANYAA (talk) 07:52, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- How is this article any different? AFeatherlessBipehead (talk) 13:42, 5 December 2025 (UTC)
- Everything is case by case is what I am saying and WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not really useful. If those got nominated for deletion the files would probably be deleted. PARAKANYAA (talk) 17:05, 5 December 2025 (UTC)

Requested move 16 June 2026
- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved. Given the recent RFC about WP:NOYEAR, I don't find much weight in the oppose arguments for the year, and there are also more support arguments. If people want to further discuss stabbing versus attack, a new RM for that may be opened at any time, given that this discussion was primarily about the date. Trollhättan school attack → 2015 Trollhättan school attack – This is a small event and should have the year so its easier to identify, also it is a mass stabbing. - Oppose year per WP:OVERPRECISION. Not ambiguous with any other Trollhättan school incident so year is unnecessary and might imply something similar happened in some other year. Also WP:CONSISTENT with Kuopio school stabbing, Örebro school shooting, Kuopio school stabbing. No opinion on "attack" vs "stabbing". Station1 (talk) 18:52, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom and WP:NOYEAR. The year is included by default per the naming guidelines and is only excluded if the event is especially well known. PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:15, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- The first sentence of NOYEAR, which is only a guideline, says "Some articles do not need a year when, in historic perspective, the event is easily described without it. As this is a judgement call, please discuss it with other editors if there is disagreement." This event is easily described without the year. Station1 (talk) 19:37, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Would you expect the average person to know what this is? No, so it is not described "in historic perspective"; in historic perspective is not any event ever. We had an RfC about this quite recently! PARAKANYAA (talk) 19:42, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Per policy, I would expect "someone familiar with, although not necessarily an expert in, the subject area" to know what it is. Station1 (talk) 19:48, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, and that is not the case here. There are thousands of notable crimes of this type, this is not one especially well known to those familiar with the "crime" subject area; this isn't even the biggest or most notable in Sweden. PARAKANYAA (talk) 20:03, 16 June 2026 (UTC)

- Support per WP:NCWWW which states that most articles should say when, where, and what as the year is a useful identifier. The article being made more in-line with naming guidelines is not against WP:CONSISTENT, as the mentioned articles are also not in-line with naming guidelines. It is also not WP:OVERPRECISION or unnecessary disambiguation, as for the low, low cost of four characters you can provide so much context by simply placing the event in time. Disambiguation would be to add a month or day to the title. Raskuly 🐰 01:01, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- What bout the "stabbing" part? AFeatherlessBipehead (talk) 13:38, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose "stabbing" per WP:COMMONNAME, this attack has been referred to as the "Trollhättan school attack" significantly more than "Trollhättan school stabbing", so the title should be either "Trollhättan school attack" or "2015 Trollhättan school attack" AFeatherlessBipehead (talk) 13:20, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

- Support. While this event is infamous enough from a Swedish perspective to be immediately identifiable without the year, that cannot be said for most of our readers, and thus should have a year in the title per WP:NCWWW. It should be noted a discussion at that talk page of that guideline ended with a consensus to not change this naming convention to stop giving guidance to include the year in situations where it is not needed for disambiguation, and it's quite frankly getting a bit tiresome to see the matter being locally relitigated in nearly every move discussion of this kind, often to the point of warranting a relisting. That shouldn't be the case when the guideline says most events should be titled according to WP:NCWWW. ⹃Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 19:03, 23 June 2026 (UTC)
- Even if the guideline says most events should be titled with a year, and even if that weren't contrary to policy, that tells us nothing about any one particular event, which the guideline says is a judgment call to be discussed when there is disagreement. Station1 (talk) 05:54, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- I would say that the event can easily be described without the year as it isn't ambiguous or generic and out of the 19 projects with pages on it only 1 (Eswiki) includes the year (though they could be following Sv and us). I would say that the rule of normally adding a year if it is intended to apply to cases like this is unnecessary disambiguation and any guideline that encorages that tends to end up with problems. With generic events like elections that can't really be described without the year then I agree it should be included but when it comes down to shootings the common name is unlikely to include the year, do people really call the Dunblane massacre the "1996 Dunblane massacre"? I think not, people and sources would normally only include a year if ambiguous or otherwise for context (but with the latter wouldn't be part of the common name). Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:40, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- @Crouch, Swale This is not a disambiguation. That doesn't even factor in. PARAKANYAA (talk) 21:07, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
