Austro-Bavarian
Is the Austro-Bavarian Wean really needed. Noone here would ever refer to the city as that. It´s just pointless information that clutters up the start. Surely it would be better placed somewhere else in the article? EulersNumberIsGreat (talk) 18:33, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- noone in Vienna would refer to the city as "Wean" in Austro-Bavarian? Are you possibly German or so? 212.183.53.74 (talk) 06:54, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
- I live here, the vast vast majority of people say "Wien". EulersNumberIsGreat (talk) 16:54, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Use American English?
I've just rolled back the addition of {{American English}}. I don't believe it's appropriate here, or that it's appropriate to add it without discussion. Ben Aveling 07:14, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- All it does is make editors aware that the article itself is written in American English. I don't see why it was thought necessary to suddenly put it here either, but it's not wrong. Remsense 🌈 论 07:17, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- Is it in American English? I see 'colour', I see metric. And the tag doesn't just say "it is", it says "it should be", which I don't accept. Ben Aveling 07:24, 6 September 2025 (UTC)
- If it wasn't originally per the WP:ENGVAR criterion, then it wouldn't be the first time the tags have lied to me. All I care about is that if one is set, it's either that originalist one or an otherwise clear choice so no one has to argue about it going forward.
- Though, this IP does give me a little pause, they seem to be particularly energetic about "locking in" ENGVARs for their own sake, and that is frankly never a net positive. Remsense 🌈 论 07:26, 6 September 2025 (UTC)

Topic was closed years ago/tag's already in place. (Do not randomly change tags). No reason for further changes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Vienna/Archive_1#Variety_of_English — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.212.114.107 (talk) 03:03, 7 September 2025 (UTC)
An edit request; please
1, Place the usual information, in a separate section, here on the Talk page, indicating why the editing of the article is restricted, and what its intended duration might be. This is, we understand, still standard protocol for restricting editing at articles.
2, Add, in the mean time, a
tag to the article—any article that, over a period longstanding, that has entire paragraphs, entire subsections without a signle source (content thereof not WP:SKYISBLUE) is presenting WP:VERIFY as an option, and encouraging, for lack of clear policy elaboration, further additions along the same path.
3, Strongly consider—or in reply to this Talk page entry, explain reasoning against—reopening the article to general editing—there is no reason to allow limited vandalism activity to assign articles to the doldrums of limited editor attention.
Per original commentary of founder Wales, unregisterd editors are welcome, and indeed essential both to general WP health, and as a pathway toward recruiting further registered editors. And prolonged article editing proscriptions cast a shadow, suggesting bias against such editors.)
With regard, otherwise, and for the encyclopedia, a former registered editor, and former major uni faculty member. ~2026-10750-39 (talk) 00:47, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
