I am the subject of this article. I will not edit it directly. I will post specific, sourced edit requests on this page and defer to independent editors on each of them. Vilasdhar (talk) 20:02, 18 July 2026 (UTC)

Edit request: lead structure per MOS:LEAD

I am the article subject; COI declared above. Two of the lead's five sentences currently describe the Foundation rather than the subject, and the sentence on the Foundation's creation from IDG ownership carries no citation. Per MOS:LEAD, may I suggest the following restructure, keeping the first sentence unchanged:

Current lead: "Vilas Dhar is a global expert on artificial intelligence policy and a technology and philanthropy executive. He is President and Trustee of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. The Foundation focuses on Artificial Intelligence and data solutions. The Foundation was created upon the death of IDG's founder Patrick J. McGovern when the ownership of IDG was transferred to the Foundation. In October 2023, Dhar was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence."

Proposed lead: "Vilas Dhar is a global expert on artificial intelligence policy and a technology and philanthropy executive. He is President of the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation, a philanthropy focused on artificial intelligence for public purpose. Raised in rural Illinois, Dhar trained as a computer scientist and lawyer. In October 2023, he was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence. He has written on artificial intelligence governance and public agency for publications including TIME, The Boston Globe, NATURE, and U.S. News & World Report."

Notes for reviewers: the sentence on the Foundation's creation could move to the career section or be omitted here, as it concerns the organization rather than the subject and the detail is covered at IDG; if kept, it needs a citation. The upbringing and training sentence is supported by references already in the article (the University of Illinois, NYU, Harvard Kennedy School, and University Laboratory High School citations). The writing sentence is cited to the pieces listed in the Selected writings request above. All existing lead citations are retained. I defer on wording throughout. Edit request: role currency

Two small currency fixes; sources are already in the article or linked here.

1. After the sentence on the October 2023 appointment to the UN High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence, please add: "The Body issued its final report, Governing AI for Humanity, in September 2024, concluding its mandate." Source: https://www.un.org/en/ai-advisory-body (the page already cited in the article).

2. Please change "Dhar is co-chair of the Global AI Action Alliance at the World Economic Forum" to "Dhar co-chaired the Global AI Action Alliance at the World Economic Forum at its launch in 2021". The cited source is the 2021 launch release, and the initiative no longer operates under that name. Vilasdhar (talk) 20:10, 18 July 2026 (UTC)
