Sad version
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EMzEWpKKOZs It is the theme music for the movie "On the Beach" about the end of the world from nuclear fallout. 2600:1700:5FA1:54F0:1C50:C5C1:AF5E:AE5E (talk) 20:04, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
Belt it out!
Hi! Yeah, it's nice that someone made a midi version of the song, but the mechanical nature of the piece kind of neuters Waltzing Matilda. It really should sound like a bush bum with a banjo sitting by a campfire belting out an old ballad/almost shanty/folksong.
Surely somebody somewhere with a loud voice, (a banjo) and a microphone attached to a laptop can belt out a rendition of this song and release it into the public domain! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.201.8.131 (talk) 06:05, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
Could “Craigielee” be the rare exception in Wikipedia’s external links policy?
Wikipedia's policy for external links states,
“External links in an article can be helpful to the reader, but they should be kept minimal, meritable, and directly relevant to the article. With rare exceptions, external links should not be used in the body of an article.”
I propose that an external link to “Craigielee” be added to the body of the article due to its exceptional merit and relevance.
While there must be good reasons for Wikipedia’s policy, I find it difficult to understand its rationale when the article is about a song. Being able to click on a link in the body of the article and hear the song played makes it readily accessible to Jill and Joe Average who are having a quick browse. Jill and Joe are extremely unlikely to go to the External Links at the end of the article especially when they would not know the link was there.
“Craigielee” is fundamental in story of “Waltzing Matilda” being the source of the music. It established the Scottish origin of the music. The melody of the original “Waltzing Matilda” has a strong resemblance to “Craigielee”. The melody of “Waltzing Matilda” that we sing today is a variation of the original tune.
“Craigielee” caught Christina’s attention at Warrnambool and Christina’s rendition of what she remembered of it caught Banjo’s attention in Winton. Despite its age, it still catches readers’ attention. Having it as an easily accessible external link would encourage Jill, Joe and the enthusiast to read on in the article.
Does anyone else support my proposal? — Preceding unsigned comment added by BDW82 (talk • contribs) 07:28, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
Add to Derivative Works Gallipoli by the Pogues which used the musical form & the refrain at the end.
If I or someone else hasn't added by 2025, this to the section on Derivitive works Could someone please poke me. It deserves some research on Gallopoli, plus who wrote the Pogues version and why!
Given its joining of Walzting Matalda which is an alternative Australian National Anthem with another huge point of Cultural significance: Gallipoli. Where hundreds or thousands of Aussies lost their lives pointlessly. It also needs a link to the Article on the Pogues anti-war Song about Gallipoli. The song is on The Pogues Album 'Rum, Sodomy and the Lash.
The song is from the perspective of a man who fought at Gallipoli. It's a powerful anti-war song about how what was thought to be an important target, was utterly pointless but killed or maimed thousands of Australism lives. In a very similar manner to the trenches of the first world war, where Generals safe behind lines, threw away hundreds of thousands of lives.
Which is all the more poignant, as at the time of writing we are at the 1000th day of the Russian 'Special Operation' in The Russio-Ukraine war. Where the Putin is using the same Russisn tactics, that derive from the same military tactics that were used by generals on both sides of the 1914-18 war commonly referred to as the 1st World War.
Where we at currently watching lives of now approx 750,000 people on the Russiam side and probably half that on the Ukraine side who are using Nato Tactics and weapons, be destroyed because of the ego of a fascist Russisn Autocrat called Putin. The war that is utterly destroying Russia for decades to come and could see the breakup of Russia, has been joined by the North Koreans at the behest of another Faschist Autocrat whose family has stagnated North Korea from being more powerful than South Korea to where it's a fraction of the power of South Korea. And all the while another Faschist autocrat in the form of President Trump has just been elected to office in the USA AuthentiKate (talk) 01:41, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
