Village in Kaunas County, Lithuania From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Taučiūnai (formerly Russian: Тавчуны, Polish: Tauczuny, Tawczuny)[1] is a village in Kėdainiai district municipality, in Kaunas County, in central Lithuania. According to the 2011 census, the village had a population of 60 people.[2] It is located 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from Aristava, close to the A8 highway, on the shore of the Juodkiškiai Reservoir. There is a monument for the first Lithuanian volunteer soldier Povilas Lukšys, who died near Taučiūnai in 1919.[3]

History

Taučiūnai has been known since 1375. There was a manor till the mid-20th century.[4] The Taučiūnai folwark belonged to the Medekšos and the Vyšniauskai families.[1]
