The film had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on August 30, 2019.[2] It also screened at the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 12, 2019,[3] AFI Fest on November 17, 2019,[4][5] and DOC NYC in November 2019.[6] In January 2020, Sony Pictures Classics acquired distribution rights to the film in North America, Scandinavia, South Africa, the Benelux, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and airlines.[7] It was released in the United States on January 22, 2021.[8]
