Tony Davies (boxer)

Davies, from Caerphilly,^[2] was a member of the Wingfield Amateur Boxing Club in Llanbradach^[3] and represented Wales at international level.^[4]

He represented the Welsh Commonwealth Games team^[5] at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland,^[6] where he participated in the light-flyweight category.^[7] He won the silver medal^[8] after defeating Mazyopa of Zambia^[9] and Peter Butterfield of Australia in the semi-final^[10] before losing to James Odwori from Uganda in the final.^[11]

In March 1971, he won the Welsh flyweight title.^[2] He turned professional in 1972 and contested 8 professional bouts between 1972 and 1974.^[12] In October 1974 he was beaten by defending champion John McCluskey for the British flyweight title.^[13] The pair at the time were Britain's only remaining professional flyweights.^[14]
