Trephionus inexpectatus is a species of beetle belonging to the family Carabidae. It is endemic to Japan.
Trephionus inexpectatus was described by the entomologist Kôji Sasakawa in 2018 on the basis of an adult male specimen collected from Kitazawa Pass in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. The specific epithet inexpectatus refers to the unexpected nature of this species' discovery, as it is similar in appearance to other species with simple aedeagus apexes, despite having a truncate apex itself. The Japanese common name for the beetle is Akaishi-hoso-hirata-gomimushi.[1]
