Tuerkayana celeste, known as the Christmas Island blue crab is a species of crab in the family Gecarcinidae.[2] The species is only found near freshwater on Christmas Island. The species was first recorded in 1900 but only in 2012 was it found to be a separate species from the Tuerkayana hirtipes. The species was used for food in the 1950s but was subsequently protected in 1980.[3][4]
