History

Type 25 RCV

It was announced in 2025 during the Fuji Firepower Review that the vehicle is formally named the Type 25 RCV and is introduced into deployment.[4][5][6]

Design

Unlike the Type 24 MM and the Type 24 AWCV, the Type 25 RCV procurement program only started a year later in 2025, where a total of 9.1 billion yen was budgeted for the initial six vehicles.[2][7] Ultimately, a total of 116 to 120 vehicles are planned to be procured.[2][3] The Type 25 is easily identified by a semi-spherical dome covering the antenna and a mast-like structure on the rear of the vehicle that houses its electro-optics.[8]
