It was founded in 1927 as Madison General Hospital. The hospital merged with Madison Methodist Hospital in 1987. The merger created Meriter Health Services. Meriter merged with UnityPoint Health in 2013 to form UnityPoint Meriter.[4] The Meriter hospital governing board allows it some autonomy.[5]

Facilities

The hospital has 448 beds, making it the state's fifth largest.

The Madison Japanese Language School (マディソン日本語補習校 Madison Nihongo Hoshūkō), a Japanese weekend supplementary school, holds classes at the hospital's McConnel Hall.[6]
