Uryupinsky District

Uryupinsky District (Russian: Урю́пинский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion), one of the thirty-three in Volgograd Oblast, Russia.[1] As a municipal division, it is incorporated as Uryupinsky Municipal District.[4] It is located in the northwest of the oblast. The area of the district is 3,460 square kilometers (1,340 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the town of Uryupinsk[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[1] Population: 28,775 (2010 census);[3] 30,615 (2002 Census);[6] 33,266 (1989 Soviet census).[7]

Administrative and municipal status
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Uryupinsky District is one of the thirty-three in the oblast.[1] The town of Uryupinsk serves as its administrative center,[2] despite being incorporated separately as a town of oblast significance—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts.[1]
As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Uryupinsky Municipal District.[4] The town of oblast significance of Uryupinsk is incorporated separately from the district as Uryupinsk Urban Okrug.[8]
