Trite Drivel (a parody)
Hello, A435(m) and wellcome to Wiki-diddly-pedia! Thank you for vandalising my article. I hope when you come the weather will be clement. Mi esporas ke kiam vi venos la vetero estos milda. Here are a few bad links for anal retentive narcissists:
- The ninety pillars of the painted porch
- How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb
- Help pages
- Tutorial
- How to Irritate People
- Manual of Style
I hope you enjoy arguing here and being a douchebag! Please sign away your rights to your unoriginal research using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and date. If you need help, check out checkout and its lamentable Americanisms, ask someone else on his talkpage, or place a kipper in your nostrils and run around the room pretending to be Thomas the Tank Engine and someone will show up shortly to escort you to this lovely resort. Again, welcome!
This is the discussion page for a cynical loner, identified by the user's alphanumeric handle. Some handles change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anal retentive narcissist and feel that you have to spew forth irrelevant comments, please do it at someone else. If you're concerned with privacy, put some underpants on.
Random musings on toponyms
This is not Wikipedia policy, nor am I proposing it. I'm just stating my personal style which I use outside Wikipedia before I get savaged to death by every nation in Europe.
I apply a policy of enlightened proximity - look for an English name, then prefer Germanic and Romance names on a roughly equal level (I like Aix-la-Chapelle and Trèves, but those are a matter of taste (or lack thereof)), then Greek (preferably Latinised in spelling as much as possible, and failing that Katharevousa), then other Indo-European toponyms, then whatever seems easiest to pronounce.
I am not some German, Italian, or Greek chauvinist, but as a native English speaker, I like Königsberg, Stettin, Landsberg an der Warthe, Breslau, Lemberg, Pressburg, Ragusa, Spalato, Durazzo, Valona, Byzantium, Nicaea, Smyrna, Halicarnassus, Philippopolis, Salonica, Amarussium, Chalcidice (stressed on the second syllable), and so on. I can see instantly how they are pronounced.
