Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Miscellany for deletion (MfD) is a place where Wikipedians decide what should be done with problematic pages in the namespaces which aren't covered by other specialized deletion discussion areas. Items sent here are usually discussed for seven days; then they are either deleted by an administrator or kept, based on community consensus as evident from the discussion, consistent with policy, and with careful judgment of the rough consensus if required.

Filtered versions of the page are available at

Information on the process

What may be nominated for deletion here:

  • Pages not covered by other XFD venues, including pages in these namespaces: Draft:, Help:, Portal:, MediaWiki:, Wikipedia: (including WikiProjects), User:, TimedText:, MOS:,[a] Event: and the various Talk: namespaces
  • Userboxes, regardless of the namespace
  • File description pages when the file itself is hosted on Commons
  • Any other page, that is not in article space, where there is dispute as to the correct XFD venue.

Requests to undelete pages deleted after discussion here, and debate whether discussions here have been properly closed, both take place at Wikipedia:Deletion review, in accordance with Wikipedia's undeletion policy.

Notes

  1. The vast majority of pages in the MOS: namespace are redirects, which should be discussed at RfD. MfD is only applicable for the handful of its non-redirect pages.

Before nominating a page for deletion

Before nominating a page for deletion, please consider these guidelines:

More information Deleting pages in your own userspace, Deletions in draftspace ...
Deleting pages in your own userspace
  • If you want to have your own userpage or a draft you created deleted, there is no need to list it here; simply tag it with {{db-userreq}} or {{db-u1}} if it is a userpage, or {{db-author}} or {{db-g7}} if it is a draft. If you wish to clear your user talk page or sandbox, just blank it.
Deletions in draftspace
  • Unlike articles, drafts are generally not deleted solely due to lack of demonstrated notability or context.
  • Drafts that have not been edited in six months may be deleted under criterion for speedy deletion G13 and do not need nomination here.
  • Duplications in draftspace are usually satisfactorily fixed by redirection. If the material is in mainspace, redirect the draft to the article, or a section of the article. If multiple draft pages on the same topic have been created, tag them for merging. See WP:SRE.
  • For further information on draft deletion, including when nomination here is appropriate, see WP:NMFD
Deleting pages in other people's userspace
  • Consider explaining your concerns on the user's talk page with a personal note or by adding {{subst:Uw-userpage}} ~~~~  to their talk page. This step assumes good faith and civility; often the user is simply unaware of the guidelines, and the page can either be fixed or speedily deleted using {{db-userreq}}.
  • Take care not to bite newcomers – sometimes using the {{subst:welcome}} or {{subst:welcomeg}} template and a pointer to WP:UP would be best first.
  • Problematic userspace material is often addressed by the User pages guidelines including in some cases removal by any user or tagging to clarify the content or to prevent external search engine indexing. (Examples include copies of old, deleted, or disputed material, problematic drafts, promotional material, offensive material, inappropriate links, 'spoofing' of the MediaWiki interface, disruptive HTML, invitations or advocacy of disruption, certain kinds of images and image galleries, etc) If your concern relates to these areas consider these approaches as well, or instead of, deletion.
  • User pages about Wikipedia-related matters by established users usually do not qualify for deletion.
  • Articles that were recently deleted at AfD and then moved to userspace are generally not deleted unless they have lingered in userspace for an extended period of time without improvement to address the concerns that resulted in their deletion at AfD, or their content otherwise violates a global content policy such as our policies on Biographies of living persons that applies to any namespace.
Policies, guidelines and process pages
  • Established pages and their sub-pages should not be nominated, as such nominations will probably be considered disruptive, and the ensuing discussions closed early. This is not a forum for modifying or revoking policy. Instead consider tagging the page as {{historical}} and/or moving it into the historical archive, or redirecting it somewhere.
  • Proposals still under discussion generally should not be nominated. If you oppose a proposal, discuss it on the policy page's discussion page. Consider being bold and improving the proposal. Modify the proposal so that it gains consensus. Also note that even if a policy fails to gain consensus, it is often useful to retain it as a historical record, for the benefit of future editors.
WikiProjects and their subpages
  • It is generally preferable that inactive WikiProjects not be deleted, but instead be marked as {{WikiProject status|inactive}}, redirected to a relevant WikiProject, or changed to a task force of a parent WikiProject, unless the WikiProject was incompletely created or is entirely undesirable.
  • WikiProjects that were never very active and which do not have substantial historical discussions (meaning multiple discussions over an extended period of time) on the project talk page should not be tagged as {{historical}}; reserve this tag for historically active projects that have, over time, been replaced by other processes or that contain substantial discussion (as defined above) of the organization of a significant area of Wikipedia. Before deletion of an inactive project with a founder or other formerly active members who are active elsewhere on Wikipedia, consider moving it into the historical archive, or userfication.
  • Notify the main WikiProject talk page when nominating any WikiProject subpage, in addition to standard notification of the page creator.
Alternatives to deletion
  • Normal editing that does not require the use of any administrator tools, such as merging the page into another page or renaming it, can often resolve problems.
  • Pages in the wrong namespace (e.g. an article in Wikipedia namespace), can simply be moved and then tag the redirect for speedy deletion using {{db-g6|rationale= it's a redirect left after a cross-namespace move}}. Notify the author of the original article of the cross-namespace move.
Alternatives to MfD
  • Speedy deletion If the page clearly satisfies a "general" or "user" speedy deletion criterion, tag it with the appropriate template. Be sure to read the entire criterion, as some do not apply in the user space.

Draft:Aiman Valoryn

Draft:Aiman Valoryn (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View MfD)

Subject does not meet WP:MUSIC, and lack of WP:SIGCOV. Excuse my initial comment, never submitted an MfD before. The article uses fake sources, links to which are listed in my comment below. Ighs (talk) 11:23, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

I suspect the creator is associated with the subject, who per search absolutely fails WP:GNG. Ighs (talk) 11:25, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
Ignore. These are reasons for being in draftspace. Leave AfC processes to work. SmokeyJoe (talk) 13:58, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
There is fake information. Use of fake fantasy outlets dedicated mostly to the subject is incompatible with the purpose of Wikipedia and unacceptable in any namespace. Seriously, look at the sources used: https://artistnewsdaily.com/, https://www.malaysiaentertainment.asia/ and https://universalworldbulletindaily.online/. Ighs (talk) 14:10, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
That’s a completely new and different allegation. SmokeyJoe (talk) 20:41, 7 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep pending any new information. Failure to meet general notability or a special notability guide is not a reason to delete a draft, and deleting a draft for notability reasons would be actually harmful, because notability may be established later. If the alleged fake information rises to the status of a hoax, that is reason to delete. However, the subject appears to be a real person and a real musician, and that is enough to keep the draft unless something can be shown that taints the existence of a draft. Robert McClenon (talk) 02:58, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Weak keep (weak per my comment below) per WP:NMFD, i.e. failure to demonstrate that the topic meets notability guidelines is not considered sufficient reason to delete a draft.  Godsy (TALKCONT) 04:44, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
Not meeting notability and significant coverage is very different from being a fake article. Are all of the sources illegitimate? If not, perhaps just removing the offending ones might be the best course of action (if you desire to spend the time on it). @Ighs: I guess my main question is: what level of fake does this rise to?  Godsy (TALKCONT) 04:52, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
I'm inexperienced here (as you can probably tell based on my initial statement), but these sources used are not real outlets. They are manufactured by somebody associated with the "artist" in an effort to fake notability.
They are very likely set up by at least somebody associated with the subject, considering that all of the headline articles are discussing his new releases. Everything is AI-generated, and the domains were all registered within the last 8 months. Listed contact email addresses for the outlets are fake and not deliverable. Note that the referenced site https://universalworldbulletindaily.online/ has been taken down since my deletion nomination.
I'm probably not wording this in the best way possible, but it is very clear looking at the sites that they are not real outlets. Ighs (talk) 18:12, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Keep per Robert McClenon. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 20:53, 8 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment - I understand the nominator to be saying that the author has created the sources out of nitrogen and other stuff. That's thinner than thin air, because nitrogen has no aerobic value. In my opinion, that calls for an AFC comment saying that the sources are rubbish. That would be a reason to delete an article or to reject a draft, but not to delete a draft. User:DpvhoQVUyjkpbzYFb/Userboxes/Larry-Sanger (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View MfD)

Userbox declares support for Larry Sanger, who was banned for off-wiki canvassing and threatening to doxx fellow users, among other things. Given that this userpage was just made today (and is the user's only edit), it may violate WP:UBCR as being substantially divisive. Royz-vi Tsibele (talk) 03:43, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

  • weak Keep. Project related. Don’t censor minority opinion. SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:17, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
@SmokeyJoe What exactly about this userbox is project related? If it specified Sanger's Wikiproject, then sure, but it doesn't; it just says that it vaguely supports him. This isn't a "minority opinion" to be protected, this is just a poorly-designed userbox created by a single-purpose account declaring vague support for a banned user. Royz-vi Tsibele (talk) 13:29, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
In the last year or so, Sanger returned to Wikipedia with enthusiastic new ideas that were not in harmony with others, and it became controversial, and got worse in the last month, and he was banned. While it involved off-Wikipedia aspects, it was primarily about Wikipedia. Everything had to do with Wikipedia. So, sentiments about Sanger are Wikipedia related.
But, now that I see that the author is a WP:SPA account, I’m much less sure. SmokeyJoe (talk) 14:43, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
@SmokeyJoe Ah, when you said "project related" I thought you were referring to WikiProjects. My mistake. In any case, while any user has a right to support Sanger's ideas on reforming Wikipedia, supporting Sanger's bad-faith actions which led to his banning is a whole other story. Given that this userbox does not draw a distinction between the two (unlike these two userboxes, which were made before his banning), and given that it was made by a single-purpose account just yesterday, I am worried that this userbox is concerned with the latter instead of the former. Royz-vi Tsibele (talk) 14:49, 5 July 2026 (UTC)
@SmokeyJoe I am not WP:SPA, this was just 1 userbox. DpvhoQVUyjkpbzYFb (talk) 00:28, 6 July 2026 (UTC)

Delete. This article is bizzare and not relevant to the wiki. It also appears to be the user's only edit. SenshiSun (talk) 02:09, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
  • (edit conflict) Userfy: This doesn't belong in the MOS namespace since it's not part of the manual of style, and maybe not in projectspace because of MOS:PERIOD, but it should be harmless as a userspace essay. Chess enjoyer (talk) 02:12, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Userfy as a disputed single-author essay. SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:50, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
I can't see anything in Wikipedia:Essays that justifies describing this whatever-it-is as an essay. It is neither a meaningful further explanation of existing practice nor a proposal that practice be changed. If it does anything at all, it merely attempts, in broken English, to duplicate what MOS:PERIOD already says. We should not be encouraging random non-contributors to create ill-written material that misrepresents itself as a constituent part of the manual of style. AndyTheGrump (talk) 09:22, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
I use a very generous meaning of Wikipedia essay that includes any opinion related to the project. This could be advice on writing for mainspace. However, I can see that this sentence could be about writing sentences in general, or that it could be seen as something random and stupid.
I agree that it should be removed from MOS Space, either userfied or deleted. SmokeyJoe (talk) 12:11, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
Userfy. Clearly does not belong in MOS space and very confused, as per everyone here. But prefer userfy as a harmless alternative to deletion, AGF, and WP:BITE. Martinp (talk) 13:10, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete pending a non-humorous explanation by the originator of why this parody should be userfied. I don't expect such an explanation because creating this was the account's only edit. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:07, 4 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Userfy to User:Ghjoodjajr/Always end your sentences with a dot. Is this a revelatory 'essay'? No. It is also inappropriately placed in the MOS: shortcut namespace; that is the only major problem with which this page is afflicted. Draft:Travel Packing Guide

Draft:Travel Packing Guide (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) – (View MfD)

This draft was almost certainly produced by a large language model, but does not qualify for speedy deletion as G15, so should be deleted after discussion. I am not reporting this to the artificial intelligence noticeboard because this is a new editor and AINB is mainly for chronic or persistent AI use.

In particular, the use of multiple hash marks to generate a numbered outline is Markdown, which is not wiki markup and, when seen in Wikipedia, is almost always a sign of the use of artificial intelligence.

  • Delete as nominator. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:03, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete per nom. This article looks like a how-to guide (which would not be appropriate for Wikipedia per WP:NOTHOWTO) that doesn't actually tell readers how to do anything. The draft would have to be completely rewritten even if the topic were appropriate for an article. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 18:48, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Move back to userspace, to User:Junaid-tech/sandbox which is where the user created it. They are new to wikipedia. This "draft" was nowhere near ready for AfC, and may never be ready, and it was an error in judgment by the creator to submit it. It's then the nominator here who moved it from user sandbox to draft space (legitimately, since AfC submissions should be in draft space), and now has nominated it for deletion as unsuitable for draftspace once it (appropriately) fared badly at AfC. However, as a user sandbox it is not bad enough to delete, so we should revert to the status ex ante. Feedback already given by AfC evaluator what the issues are.  Preceding unsigned comment added by Martinp (talkcontribs)
  • Delete, but WP:LUDA for similar cases in the future. Not doing much harm in draftspace right now. msk 23:24, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment - The underlying disagreement among the participants here at MFD seems to be how to handle obvious AI slop that doesn't qualify for G15, but is obvious, and in what namespaces. Martinp is saying that such material may be ignored in user space or moved to user space. My opinion is that such material should be deleted, regardless of whether it is in draft space or user space. I think that is what we disagree about. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:24, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
  • IMO this does qualify for G15 given the last two sentences. Helpful Raccoon (talk) 03:18, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete per WP:NOTTRAVELGUIDE. WP:NOT is capital-P Policy and applies to all namespaces. This page is not a plausible draft of mainspace content. An unambiguous answer to the author’s misapprehension is kinder than an incorrect unclear response. Email the deleted content on request. The AI generation aspect makes it worse, including the point that a little bit of AI play consumes a lot of volunteer time in reviewing it. If too many pages like this come to MfD, the answer is to expand speedy deletion, not to tolerate misuse of Wikipedia. SmokeyJoe (talk) 09:45, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
I see @SmokeyJoe's point on WP:NOT(TRAVELGUIDE) and am equally comfortable with delete and my !vote above of userfy/move on that basis.
Regarding the AI point (and this is therefore equally a response to @Robert McClenon), I think that we should have one bar for what is obvious LLM, and therefore speediable. If it meets that bar, out it goes on that basis. That bar is currently G15, though its specifics can and will need to be updated (per Smokey). If something is not *obviously* AI we will of course need to engage on whether it is suspect, and what to do about it, if it is important enough. That includes drafts being considered for mainspace, talk page interactions, etc. But borderline AI detection is less accurate than people sometimes feel, and I think it's really not worth spending time on for a "useless draft" (pessimistic view) or someone's jot notes in their user sandbox (optimistic view). So I don't want to make decisions based on "shades of grey" likely-AI-slop-but-not-quite-G15 unless it is a page that is important enough to bother. Relevant disclosure: In one part of my work, I use an LLM to "write" repetitive content, but have trained it so the fact it is LLM-written is not detectable (if I didn't disclose). In another part of my day job, I write without LLM use, and recently have had a submitted paper rejected as "AI" on the basis of some sort of oversimplified markers like sentence complexity and structure. Martinp (talk) 14:51, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
  • Move to sandbox. I tried checking for anything close to a reliable source on this topic and couldn't find anything. It would take significant research and rewrites to get it past WP:GNG. I would consider treating this as notes in a sandbox as a gesture of goodwill to a new user, and it should be moved as such. However, if the vote was to delete, I would not be surprised.
