My interests are theatre, philosophy, in particular epistemology, causality, the study of rhetoric and political nationalism. I also enjoy whimsical science fiction and fantasy. More recently I've become interested in the impact of digital technologies on misinformation and determination of truth. In other matters my reading and hobby interests tend to be eclectic. One of my hobbies is collecting books with self referential titles. Another is collecting books of famous locations - I find fake and misattributed quotes intriguing and enjoy tracking down their origin.

I started editing Wikipedia pages on a very intermittent basis in 2015. As a 2025 New Years resolution I thought I'd try to aim for an additional 365 Wikipedia edits by the end of the year which I surpassed without noticing around September.

I also had a run in with someone adding some information to the page on Dodos, something I thought quite reasonable regarding scientific research which they reverted. It felt like they were being very territorial. Other than walking away from it not sure how else this could be handled. It's not that I'm wedded to the edit, I'm just curious about ways in which these things are resolved.

May 30, 2025 Note

In March I created a page on the Unix date command as I was annoyed that Wikipedia references to the command led to Unix time which focusses on the internal representation pf time whereas the date command is about presentation and display. Additionally the date command is one of the common Unix/Posix commands that does not have its own article. It was subsequently tagged for deletion for reasons that I strongly disagree with. However instead of presenting my arguments quickly I felt that improving the page would make the case for me but the deletion process was faster (7 days) than I anticipated. I also spent that time honing my points instead of presenting them. You can find my argumentation here Talk:Date (Unix command)

Ah, well, part of the experience is learning how to deal with this sort of thing.

Here is the current draft of the article which I will continue to work on. User:GelvinM/Date (Unix command). If you happen to come across this I would appreciate any constructive criticism or suggestions. Or just drop a note on the draft article's talk page if you find the article interesting.
