The Parni was an eastern Iranian tribe established on the Amu Darya in the conferedation of Dahae.[1] To Yarshater, they were a Saka tribe.[2] Saladin, the founder of dynasty, was a Kurd.[15] Yarshater 2004c, p. 234–238: "The origins of the Safavids are clouded in obscurity. They may have been of Kurdish origin (see R. Savory, Iran Under the Safavids, 1980, p. 2; R. Matthee, “Safavid Dynasty” at iranica.com), but for all practical purposes they were Turkish-speaking and Turkified."
