Early life
Lon Ličan was born in Slovenia. He began playing basketball in the youth systems of the Slovenian club Cedevita Olimpija, where he quickly stood out for his height, athleticism, and ability to play on the perimeter.
He progressed through the entire youth team pathway, from the youngest age group to the second division. He was then called up to train with the senior team and play in a friendly match. Lon represented the club at numerous international tournaments, including the ABA U-19 League, where he competed three times and reached the Final Tournament twice. His standout performance, including a game-winning buzzer-beater, played a key role in securing his team’s place in the finals (highlight here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMHqS9e4mo0).
Additionally, he participated twice in the EuroLeague Basketball Youth competitions. In both the ABA League and EuroLeague, he was recognized as a player worth watching for his skill, leadership, and impact on the court. .[1]

Lon also represented Slovenia at all European youth tournaments, playing a key role in the team’s success. He participated at every level from U-16 to U-20, and notably helped Slovenia qualify for the U-17 World Championship for the first time, held in Málaga. During the tournament, he also scored Slovenia’s first-ever point in a World Championship game, marking a historic moment for his country.
