Damages
You need to be careful with the sources for the deaths/damages. As I look at Wipha for example, I note the very first sentence that says "Typhoon Wipha may have caused financial losses of up to HK$2 billion (US$255 million) on Sunday alone, economists have said." As a result, we can not use the source to say that Wipha caused damages of US$255 million. I have also always assumed that any damages in Hong Kong would be considered to be a part of China/Guangdong's economic loss/damages. On a side note: I will ask another editor to see what he thinks on Co-May's damages as Google Translate tells me "Typhoon Bamboo made landfall in Zhejiang and Shanghai on July 30th as a tropical storm, causing some damage to Zhejiang, Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Anhui. The typhoon disaster affected 1.516 million people to varying degrees, with 256,000 people requiring emergency relocation and resettlement or emergency living assistance. More than 100 houses collapsed, more than 600 houses were damaged, 29,300 hectares of crops were affected, and direct economic losses amounted to 3.14 billion yuan."Jason Rees (talk) 14:46, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for your feedback, I will be more careful with references, but when given that actual damage statistics for Hong Kong actually come very late, with the HKO’s database only being up to Typhoon Koinu of 2023, I would have to make use of these statistics from articles, as the actual statistics may only be issued 1-2 years after the storm. For Co-May, I interpreted that the “typhoon disasters” caused 3.14 billion yuan in total damage, with the concluding sentence you have mentioned mentioning this phrase again, so I thought that Co-May caused 300 million yuan in damages, in accordance with previous edits. 2425-Usagi (talk) 15:03, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of the HKO's impact database and having investigated it, I would note that it's based on the various Tropical Cyclone Annual Publications, however, I would have assumed, along with Macau, that Hong Kong's economic loss would be included in the overall China economic loss, since they are the same country despite being run by foreign powers several years ago. Regardless, we have to remember that we would rather have the correct damage total and that there isn't a rush for death/damage totals, after all, Wikipedia is relied upon by various people to be correct.Jason Rees (talk) 16:22, 4 January 2026 (UTC)
- Well, monetary damages in Hong Kong are calculated by the HKO in HKD and differ from the ones in Mainland China. To be fair, Hong Kong and Macau are special administrative regions and are theoretically under “One Country Two Systems”, which directly separates their damage estimates from Mainland Chinese ones. This is why it’s best to add Hong Kong and Macau sections to the tables, as damage in these areas is not accounted by the Chinese authorities. 2425-Usagi (talk) 23:03, 4 January 2026 (UTC)

Retired Typhoons
I need you to cite any death and damage totals using sources from outside Wikipedia, that you provide on the List of Retired Pacific typhoon names as it is a featured list.Jason Rees (talk) 22:15, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- Do they only put the damage totals of the country that applied for the name to be retired? Since Matmo was requested by Vietnam to be retired, I put the death and damage totals of Vietnam there 2425-Usagi (talk) 22:46, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
- Nope. Your edit was reverted because you did not provide a reliable source for the deaths and damages that you said Matmo caused.Jason Rees (talk) 22:56, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
