09/29/2025 Nominees

17 nominations sent this week and we only know where two of them (VADM Thomas and Lt. Gen. Hinds) are going; Thomas is going to US Fleet Forces Command and Hinds will have the "Acting" removed from his current title and Commander, US Air Forces in Europe - Air Forces Africa will be downgraded to a 3-star role (per https://www.stripes.com/branches/air_force/2025-10-03/air-forces-europe-commander-downgrade-star-19307474.html).

I'm not going to bother making predictions for every single one of these roles because I know that Pete Hegseth wants to downgrade a bunch of 4-star roles to 3-star. And it also wouldn't surprise me if there's a bunch of officers retiring after two years in the 3-star grade rather than a full three years. But I'll share some thoughts.

Army 3-star nominees:

-MG Peter Benchoff

-MG Michelle Donahue

-MG Christopher Eubank: I'd be surprised if he's not going to US Army Cyber Command.

-MG James D. Isenhower III

-MG Francisco Lozano: There are no other nominees in this batch with an acquisition background so maybe he'll get Defense Contract Management Agency.

-MG Michael C. McCurry II

-MG John L. Rafferty Jr.

-MG Michelle Schmidt: There are no other nominees in this batch with an intelligence background so maybe she'll get Defense Intelligence Agency.

-MG William D. Taylor

-MG Richard Zellmann

Navy 3-star nominees:

-RADM Michael W. Baze: Maybe Naval Inspector General.

-RADM Patrick Hannifin: I'd be surprised if he doesn't get US Seventh Fleet.

Air Force 3-star nominees:

-Maj. Gen. Jason Armagost: I'd be surprised if he doesn't get Deputy Commander, US Strategic Command.

-Maj. Gen. Jennifer Hammerstedt: I'd be surprised if she doesn't get Air Force Sustainment Center.

-Maj. Gen. David Lyons

-Maj. Gen. Clark Quinn

-Maj. Gen. Daniel Tulley

Space Force 3-star nominees:

-Maj. Gen. Dennis Bythewood: I'd be surprised if he doesn't get Space Systems Command.

I know there's several other positions that we know will be open due to pending retirements but I'm not confident enough to make any definitive predictions as to who will get what role.

Thoughts? @KingEdinburgh @SuperWIKI @Gav the Meerkat @Neovu79 EPMen (talk) 02:05, 4 October 2025 (UTC)

Someone else, Major General Joseph E. Hilbert, has been confirmed for Eighth Army as of 19/9/25. So Taylor won’t go there Gav the Meerkat (talk) 03:35, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
I totally forgot about that. No idea where Taylor is going. @Gav the Meerkat EPMen (talk) 02:50, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
From this (https://www.airandspaceforces.com/new-commander-aetc-space-forces-space-3-star-nominees/):
- Maj Gen Armagost to Deputy Commander, Air Force Global Strike Command
- Maj Gen Hammerstedt to Air Force Sustainment Center (you were right)
- Maj Gen Lyons to Air Force Inspector General
- Maj Gen Tulley to Commander/President, Air University
- Maj Gen Quinn to Commander, Air Education and Training Command
- Maj Gen Bythewood to Commander, Space Forces - Space
For the army, LTG Christopher O. Mohan also got renominated for 3-stars, I'm almost confident they've dropped AMC from a 4 to 3-star command and having him drop the acting title he's held since Hamilton got canned. Comicbookforce (talk) 14:04, 4 October 2025 (UTC)
@Comicbookforce It does make sense that Armagost is going to Air Force Global Strike Command since its new Commander (Davis) is a missileer and if the Commander is a missileer, then the Deputy Commander is usually a bomber pilot/ navigator (and vice versa). EPMen (talk) 02:53, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
Given that there are so many nominations for Army three-star too, it’s likely Major General James P. Isenhower III would get either V Corps or III Corps, and Major General Taylor would get I Corps or go to Combined Arms Command Gav the Meerkat (talk) 00:21, 18 October 2025 (UTC)
Air Mobility Command will be downgraded to a three-star command, once Gen. Lamontagne becomes Vice Chief of Staff.

Critical Major Weapon Systems Programs

@KingEdinburgh @SuperWIKI @Gav the Meerkat @EPMen — It seems like for every four-star position they remove from a service, they just add one as a special activity under the DoW. If every current four-star position gets filled, we still end up with the same number of four-stars before Trump began his second term as president. Neovu79 (talk) 01:33, 22 November 2025 (UTC)
