Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to post-1992 politics of the United States and closely related people, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in the Syrian Civil War and ISIL. Due to past disruption in this topic area, the community has authorised uninvolved administrators to impose contentious topics restrictions—such as editing restrictions, bans, or blocks—on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, expected standards of behaviour, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

Additionally, the following restriction(s) apply to this topic area:

  • All articles in this topic area are under WP:1RR (a limit of one revert per editor per article per 24-hour period). When in doubt, assume an edit is related and so is a revert. Clear vandalism of whatever origin may be reverted without restriction. Reverts of edits made by anonymous IP editors that are not vandalism are exempt from 1RR but are subject to the usual rules on edit warring. Editors who otherwise violate this 1RR restriction may be blocked without warning by any uninvolved administrator, even on a first offence.

For additional information, please see the guidance on these sanctions. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor. — Newslinger talk 21:36, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

Information icon You have recently made edits related to the Arab–Israeli conflict. This is a standard message to inform you that the Arab–Israeli conflict is a designated contentious topic. Additionally, editors must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert on the same page within 24 hours for pages within this topic. This message does not imply that there are any issues with your editing. For more information about the contentious topics system, please see Wikipedia:Contentious topics.  Newslinger talk 21:36, 26 August 2025 (UTC)

@Newslinger I don't have 500 edits. Can I edit Arab–Israeli conflict? What will happen if I did? Alikhamahu (talk) 03:32, 5 September 2025 (UTC)
Hi Alikhamahu, because your account is not yet extended confirmed, you are currently not allowed to make edits related the Arab–Israeli conflict topic area (WP:CT/A-I) on most Wikipedia pages. The only exception is that you are allowed to submit edit requests related to this topic area on article talk pages. If you do edit within this topic area in a way that violates the extended confirmed restriction (ECR), your edit will most likely be reverted by another editor. Depending on the severity, ECR violations may warrant a block or topic ban. Because ECR also applies to edits that overlap with the Arab–Israeli conflict topic area, even on pages that are not directly related to the topic area, please be careful to ensure that your edits comply with the restriction. I understand that the restriction can be inconvenient, but the Arbitration Committee has determined that the restriction is necessary to moderate the high level of disruptive editing within this topic area on Wikipedia. — Newslinger talk 11:18, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

Appearance of Disruptive Editing

I see you are attempting to be a postive contributor here, the way in which you are editing is boarding on disruptive which might result in a loss of editing priviledges. It seems that you have a very specific point of view that you want to express, and strong opinions on certain articles. While we welcome people with subject matter expertise, it does not mean you can simply edit wikipedia to reflect your understanding. Before starting more article for deletion discussions, or page move discussions, or editing any article where your opinion is different from what is already expressed on the page, please PAUSE, and read the following articles to gain a better understanding for the policies and proceedures of Wikipedia:

Simply that you are not following the established policies, guidelines and precedents on Wikipedia. I would suggest you carefully read ALL of the articles that I linked above, in their entirety, and if you still have questions, please feel to quote specific aspects of those policies and the question you have.
