Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
Use the main sandbox or create your own personal sandbox to experiment.
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Lakshman Acharya when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. Note I have likely fixed the error by now so check the history of the page to see how it was fixed. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance. Thank you. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ  Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Nirmala Sitharaman

Hi! With regards to your repeated edits to Nirmala Sitharaman, central ministers are referred to as officially by the title.

  • For one, the pages in Wiki are titled as such, and there is no need to introduce a prefix to the title unless there is a need for differentiation. For e.g. a minister of finance for state would be titled and mentioned as such.
  • Two, most government sources including that of finance ministry refer simply as "Minister of finance" or "finance minister" (1 2, 3) as well depending on the source. Though "union minister" is used in media at few places, it is neither a uniform standard term or the ones used in all official government sources as you claim.
  • Three, it is the norm with other articles related to BLPs of politicians globally.
  • Four, in some cases, it doesn't even make sense to distinguish, as for e.g. there is only one minister of defence position.

So, please refrain from making repeated non-constructive reverts and if you claim to the contrary, initiate a larger discussion with the appropriate sources and the rationale. Until then, the status quo remains. Thanks! Magentic Manifestations (talk) 07:53, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Soni Razdan, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Information icon Hi Anonymous Secondary! I noticed that you recently made an edit at Soni Razdan and marked it as "minor", but it may not have been. On Wikipedia, "minor edit" refers only to superficial edits that could never be disputed, such as fixing typos or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not minor, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four (talk) 17:23, 22 February 2026 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to living or recently deceased subjects of biographical content on Wikipedia articles, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Your edits are becoming disruptive. You have been warned multiple times about the need to use preview to check your edits, yet you continue to introduce unknown parameters into articles. You did this again at Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh when you modified the page, you once again did this. If you continue your disruptive editing, you may find yourself blocked from editing. Please take the time to review your edits moving forward. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 15:03, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Information icon Your editing is becomming disruptive due to your failure to heed the multiple warnings that have been given. Please understand that one of the requirements for editing on Wikipedia is communicating with fellow editors. Please respond to this message and acknowledge that you understand that communication is required. Ok sir, I will keep it in mind.
Thanks much. Anonymous Secondary (talk) 15:25, 5 March 2026 (UTC)
