Planespotters is not a reliable source per WP:PLANESPOTTERS. If you do have an alternative source, then it goes in the article as a citations, not hidden away in the edit summary. You need to carefully look at the footnoted accepted(not poorly sourced) source from Lufthansa which in fact was adjusted before I made last change: 19 747-8i totals is in fact now 18 not 19. Lufthansa made that change early this morning. I spoke with the head of Lufthansa Investor relations as well. The number should not have been reverted by you. The May 11 source was amended by Lufthansa Investor Relations. Last week it said 19 total 747-8is and today it says 18 747-8is. The May 11 source is from Lufthansa and they have agreed to amend the number again down to 17 when the addition 747-8i is transferred to the USAF.when the second Aristoenigma (talk) 23:03, 20 May 2026 (UTC)

If you click on and open the May 11 source the number has changed within Lufthansa Yesterday if you clicked on it the info said 19 and today it says 18. That is the authentic source from Lufthansa Aristoenigma (talk) 23:08, 20 May 2026 (UTC)

OK, here's how it works - if you're using a source that's already in an article, and it's updated since it was added, then you must update the source accordingly to show that it has updated. When you made your edits, you neither touched the source nor added a new source - so the citation still referenced the content as it was on the 11th May. The source is a fluidly changing source that was added on May 11. Lufthansa admits that the transfer of one of the 747-8is was missed in the data on their website. By design the website gets regularly updated. The fact it was originally put on the Wiki page on May 11 does not need to be updated as it is effectively updated fluidlly by Lufthansa the owner of the info and the aircraft. That's all well and good - but for that very reason sources have date and access-date parameters. Right now that date is set to 11 May, as that was the last time it was accessed and used to cite content on Wikipedia. If you're now accessing it anew and using it to source content on Wikipedia, you must update the source to show that you've accessed it today, instead of leaving it with the old date. I am telling you that the info accessed today is effectively updated by the Lufthansa source since the source showed an error on May 11. If you click on the source today or tomorrow the validity of the info does not change. The source is the source is the source irrespctive of when it is accessed. Are you simply refusing the correct info because the footnote does not say accessed May 20? Aristoenigma (talk) 23:25, 20 May 2026 (UTC)

I've explained umpteen times now that when you reuse an existing source you must update the relevant dates in the citation. I don't know how many more times I need to repeat myself to get the message across. When you made the edit, you didn't add, remove or alter any sources at all, so your edit was by definition unsourced as you made it. Danners430 _{tweaks made} 23:34, 20 May 2026 (UTC)

The numbers reinserted were already accepted some time ago. I was simply putting the numbers back as they disappeared a few days ago. In other words the correct references for 2 747-400s and 7 747-8is were there already. Aristoenigma (talk) 19:17, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

The numbers were not "accepted", because the numbers were not sourced. Find a reliable reference for the 2 B747-400 and 7 B747-8i, then you can reinstate the numbers with that reference. WikiPate (talk) 19:19, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

In the ref it says "Air China retains a pair of 747-400s" and "It also retains a fleet of seven 747-8Is"

The former ref (Air China Annual Report 2025) only said, that the airline has 9 in total. WikiPate (talk) 19:53, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

In this case it looks like you really wanted to correct an error and that you didn't want to put in unsourced content. How this went happens very rarely on WP. That's why I delete my warning. WikiPate (talk) 20:15, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
