FeedbackThe reviewer, Quxyz, left the following feedback:
provide significant coverage: discuss the person in detail, not brief mentions or interviews lacking independent analysis;
are reliable: from reputable outlets with editorial oversight;
are independent: not connected to the person, such as interviews, press releases, the subject's own website, or sponsored content.
Please add references that meet all three of these criteria. If none exist, the subject is not yet suitable for Wikipedia.
Not including references within the awards section, every source is a primary source and the content derived from those sources likely constitute as original research or greatly overstate Basler's roles in these projects.

Why Marek Basler meets the Wikipedia criteria for academics
There is a substantive basis for Marek Basler's notability under the English Wikipedia guideline Wikipedia (academics) (WP). In particular, his receipt of the EMBO Gold Medal in 2018 and his subsequent election to EMBO membership in 2023 provide relevant evidence under the guideline's academic-notability criteria.
1. EMBO Gold Medal: official confirmation and independent assessment
The EMBO announcement of 16 May 2018 confirms that Basler received the EMBO Gold Medal and identifies his research on bacterial type VI secretion systems as the reason for his selection.
Under WP, publications by the awarding organisation may be used to verify that an academic received an award. The prestige and significance of the award should, however, be established independently.
The draft already cites an independent article by Adéla Skoupá, published in Hospodářské noviny on 3 June 2018: “Je to jako rozebrat auto na součástky a pochopit, jak funguje…”. The article describes the EMBO Gold Medal as a particularly prestigious European award for young biologists and provides independent context concerning Basler's research and career.
Taken together, the official EMBO announcement establishes the fact of the award, while the independent Hospodářské noviny article provides evidence of its significance.
2. EMBO membership: elected academic recognition
Basler's official EMBO profile records his membership as “EMBO 2023.” The EMBO announcement of 4 July 2023 explains that new EMBO members are nominated and elected by existing members.
His membership is therefore not simply an institutional affiliation but an elected academic distinction. This provides additional evidence of recognition by an established international scientific organisation.
Conclusion
The combination of the EMBO Gold Medal, independently documented as a prestigious European scientific award, and election to EMBO membership, an elected distinction within an international scientific organisation, provides a reasonable basis for reassessing the draft under WP.
I would therefore appreciate reconsideration of the decline in light of these sources and the specific criteria of WP. Doemsche (talk) 12:30, 9 September 2026 (UTC)
