Your submission at Articles for creation: Ioannis Vlachos (politician) (February 19)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Paul W was:
This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Fails WP:GNG, WP:ANYBIO and WP:NPOL - no significant coverage in reliable independent secondary sources.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit it after they have been resolved.

Regarding draft: Ioannis Vlachos (politician) / Question about notability requirements

Hello Paul W,

Thank you for taking the time to review the draft.

I understand the concerns regarding notability and the requirement for significant coverage in independent secondary sources. I would like to clarify that Ioannis Vlachos did indeed serve two terms as Mayor of Serres (1995–1998 and 2007–2010), which can be verified through official municipal records and national press reporting of the 2006 election results.

My intention is not promotional; I am trying to determine whether additional national-level sources (e.g., broader press coverage related to the Serres Racing Circuit project and his mayoral tenure) would be sufficient to meet WP:GNG and WP:NPOL standards.

If you could kindly advise what type or depth of sources would be necessary to establish notability in this case, I would appreciate the guidance before considering resubmission.

Thank you again for your time and feedback. FDCaffeine (talk) 15:15, 19 February 2026 (UTC)

Hi FDCaffeine. What is needed is significant coverage which "addresses the topic directly and in detail ... [and] ... is more than a trivial mention". I accept that he served two terms as mayor, but is there more in-depth coverage about him? Was he the subject of written profiles published in newspapers or magazines, for example? Do published articles state the racing circut was delivered because of his efforts? Are there published accounts of his other achievements? Municipal records will not be sufficient - "Articles should be based on reliable, independent, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. This means that we publish only the analysis, views, and opinions of reliable authors." (see WP:REPUTABLE, part of WP:RS). I hope this helps. Happy editing.
