- You should talk to an administrator in this regard and report that person at the notice board. I'm not an administrator, so not able to block him or ban his IP address. You may also request to restore the undiscussed deleted articles. — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 13:23, 10 April 2026 (UTC)

Need Help in Creating A Page For Dehradun Basmati
i had made attempts to create a page about dehradun basmati but was unable to do so due to scarcity of sources and literature on the matter. I think its essential to document the crop carefully considering its rapid disappearance. GothicRainger (talk) 09:29, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
- You mean sela basmati? Because that's the basmati variety of Dehradun. Check Uttarakhand red rice and Uttarakhand pahari toor dal articles, there might be some external sources for agro products. You can also check Geographical indications in India. — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 09:43, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
Clarification regarding page move (Department of Home (Bihar))
Hello! I noticed that on 4 February 2020 you moved Home Department (Bihar) to Department of Home (Bihar) with the edit summary "Wikipedia naming protocol." I'm currently reviewing articles on government departments and was wondering if you could point me to the specific naming guideline or discussion on which this move was based. I'd appreciate any clarification regarding the rationale behind the move. Thank you! Ivecos (t) 20:05, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- See, Wikipedia:Naming conventions (government and legislation). — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 01:59, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. That guideline is exactly what prompted my question. As I understand it, it says that articles on government departments should normally use the department's official title. Both at the time of the move and today, the official English name used by the Government of Bihar is Home Department, which is why I'm trying to understand the rationale for moving it to Department of Home (Bihar). Please let me know if I'm overlooking anything? Ivecos (t) 06:06, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- That's not an official title, even the government websites may have inconsistency and poorly written content sometimes using excessive acronyms and short titles but in official correspondence in most state governments the correct title is "Department of X". — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 15:07, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- I understand that some Indian state government websites can sometimes be inconsistent. However, in this case, the department's own official website, both at the time of the move and today, consistently uses Home Department. I also checked the official websites of other Government of Bihar departments, and their naming appears to be consistent with their official titles. I couldn't find anything in Wikipedia:Naming conventions (government and legislation) that suggests departing from an agency's official title in favour of a generalised "Department of X" format. If you are aware of any official Bihar government document, notification, or correspondence using Department of Home, or a specific part of the naming convention that supports that title, I'd be interested to see it. - Is Department of Science and Technology (Bihar) also written as Science and Technology Department? Check other departments of the government of Bihar to see how they're titled and if there's a consistency. — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 17:33, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, it is. The official title used by the Government of Bihar is Science, Technology and Technical Education Department. However, I also noticed that the article was originally titled Department of Science and Technology, Bihar and was subsequently moved by you to its current title. Likewise, both the current and archived official Government of Bihar websites consistently use the Home Department as the department's official English name. I also checked the official English names used by other Government of Bihar departments, and they appear to be consistent with their respective official titles.
- In light of the official Government of Bihar sources and my understanding of the naming convention, I continue to believe Home Department (Bihar) is the appropriate title. Having discussed this with you, and as I have not come across any official Government of Bihar source or specific part of the naming convention supporting Department of Home (Bihar), I intend to move the article back accordingly, unless there are any policy-based or source-based objections. - Also check the state government departments of other states of India and do the needful. — Hemant Dabral (📞 • ✒) 04:31, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, my point is not about preferring one naming style over another. The Government of Bihar's official website defaults to English (where one might ordinarily expect Hindi), and both the current and archived versions consistently use Home Department as the department's official English title. Since an official English title has already been provided by the Government itself, I don't think Wikipedia should replace it with a generalised English equivalent. Such an approach would be more appropriate only where no official English title exists. Cheers, Ivecos (t) 06:02, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
