About image removal in "Origins and tradition" section

Hi, I noticed your recent edit removing the image of the modern self-portrait labeled as a Hong Kong bride in the Origins and tradition section. Thank you for your clarification that it was a modern recreation by an artist in drag.

Your rationale makes sense, as per verifiability and NPOV policies — modern artistic portrayals should not be presented in a way that may mislead readers into thinking they are authentic historical depictions. If such images are used in future, they should be placed in a clearly labeled context (e.g., Modern reinterpretations) with reliable sources explaining their relevance.

Thanks again for helping maintain accuracy!

Hi thank you, I'm tried to get the image removed for the page Selfie and wikimedia commons.
I also believe that these files: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:A_Late_Qing_Dynasty_Abalone_Shell_Lacquerware_Tobacco_Oil_Diffuser_in_black.jpg

Are modern forgeries by the same artist, intentionally recreating the look of modern electronic vapes. Moshishito2999 (talk) 13:25, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
Thanks for the follow-up. If those files are indeed modern forgeries or recreations, it’s appropriate to raise concerns via the relevant Wikimedia Commons deletion process.
You're right that per NPOV and verifiability policies, such images should not be presented as authentic historical artifacts unless supported by reliable sources. Feel free to flag them on Commons with detailed rationale — that’s the best place to initiate review.
Appreciate your efforts in maintaining historical accuracy!

He sounds like a menace if he's deliberately uploading fake images. Secretlondon (talk) 20:42, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
Please remember to stay civil and assume good faith, as outlined in WP:CIVIL and WP:AGF. Even if there are concerns about image authenticity, it's important to focus on content and sourcing — not personal intent. If an image appears to be a forgery or misrepresentation, the proper venue for that is the Wikimedia Commons deletion process.
Let's keep the discussion focused and constructive. Thank you! Gvihar 20:53, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
I think it's interesting commentary as an art piece. A page like selfie is maintained enough that it's semi protected, and most false information would be quickly spotted and removed. With images we sort of trust the poster to be truthful and when the source is supposedly a family photo album it's almost impossible to verify. I think wikipedia should absolutely remove fake/misleading images. I do see where the artist is coming from, but it's still vandalism.
I actually came across the "vape" first and was so shocked at how much it looked like a modern vape that I had to reverse image search it, which brought me to the artist directly. Moshishito2999 (talk) 23:18, 27 July 2025 (UTC)
