Fixing errors in talk page contributions

Just to explain my edit to your contribution to talk:supply-side economics, custom and practice seems to be this: if you spot your error

  • within five minutes, you can just correct it on the spot unless engaged in active debate.
  • within 30 minutes, use html strikeout the cross out the error and just insert the correction without further comment except to add a second time-stamped signature
  • after 30 minutes, use html strikeout the cross out the error and insert the correction, but also add an explanation for what you have done. If it is fairly minor, append the explanation to the original post after the original signature and sign it again.

If course if the error is substantial (a reconsideration rather than a typo), it would be best to strike our the whole contribution (with an explanation).
