Happy Easter!
Wikipedia's Golden Age
I joined the wikipedia during its golden age. Prior to 2007 there was a good balance between anabolism and catabolism. Very sadly, there was an unanticipated sea change in the wikipedia's baroque and contradictory policies in 2007, which changed the balance, and made it much too easy to delete articles. There are charts that display this sea change.
The volunteers who found it enjoyable exercise to add new content, create new articles, or add the necessary paragraphs to improve existing articles and keep them up to date, no longer found it enjoyable to be end up in wrangles with quality control volunteers, who were growing not only more nit-picky, but also often, malicious and personal. Anyone who has been called to defend the content they spent hours working on, is sure to have encountered passing comments from quality control volunteers who are functionally illiterate. It is exhausting. Most people who were happy adding new content during the wikipedia's golden age started to defect, without really being replaced.
Since you seem to be a smart person, and you are a University student, for whom it would be good experience, I am going to urge you to stop concentrating on simple copy editing, and nominating articles for deletion, and instead work on adding new content and/or helping to keep existing articles up to date.
As I wrote in the AFD you recently initiated, I started working on the wikipedia when it had less than ten percent as many articles as it has now. I started thousands of articles. Sadly, unlike during the wikipedia's golden age, when lots of people would work on articles, when I look at the contribution histories for most of the articles I started I see dozens of edits have been made to the article's metadata, changing which templates it used, which categories it was included in. But no one else had done any actual work on those article's actual content.
You found one good additional reference for Bright Leaves. That one additional reference, included properly, in the modern way, would probably have been enough so that any other impatient people, who didn't see that McElwee was a highly regarded film expert, wouldn't have a concern with the article.
No offense, but I am going to ask for userification of the other article you nominated for deletion. Geo Swan (talk) 13:37, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
inre Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bright Leaves
NOt to scold, but it's always best to be more diligent and pro-active in a search for reliable sources covering film. The article's talk page offers a link to Metacritic which itself lists 20 reviews in reliable sources. Hint: The Find sources template assigned by AFD is not always the best search tool. A quick withdrawal and close will eliminate lots of spankings. 07:21, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for June 15
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ruthie Tompson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pinocchio (film). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for Ruthie Tompson
On 1 July 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ruthie Tompson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ruthie Tompson), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Merry Christmas!
| Methinks I see an heavenly Host Of angels on the wing; Methinks I hear their cheerful notes, So merrily they sing. Let all your fears be banished hence, Glad tidings I proclaim; For there's a Savior born today And Jesus is his name. Lay down your crooks and quit your flocks, To Bethlehem repair; And let your wandering steps be squared By yonder shining star. Seek not in courts or palaces; Nor royal curtains draw; But search the stable, See your God extended on the straw. Then learn from hence, ye rural swains, The meekness of your God, Who left the boundless realms of joy, To ransom you with blood. The master of the inn refused A more commodious place; Ungenerous soul of savage mold And destitute of grace. - from William Billings, "Shiloh" |

Merry Christmas!
| If angels sung a Savior’s birth, On that auspicious morn, We well may imitate their mirth, Now He again is born! If stars in heav'n shone bright as day To light the manger throne, We should rejoice as well as they That love doth reign alone. All Glory be to God on high, And to the earth be peace; Goodwill henceforth from heav'n to men Begin and never cease. - "Milford" by Joseph Stephenson, text anonymous |
