Contentious topic alert

Introduction to contentious topics

You have recently edited a page related to gender-related disputes or controversies or people associated with them, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

This above message does not mean you have done anything wrong, this is just a standard alert to say that the current area you have started to edit Wikipedia in is subject to additional restrictions and higher scrutiny than other topic areas. It is usually recommended to start editing in a non-contentious topic area so you can get familiar with the policies and guidelines, as well as learning how to collaborate effectively (especially with people you disagree with) in a less heated topic. Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, RiverArchivist2000. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Talk:Stella O'Malley, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicizing, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. So far, you have only edited articles and pages about Stella O'Malley and Genspect. You have done so solely to make our coverage of them less neutral by seeking to elide factual matters that might not paint them in a favourable light. I think it is reasonable to ask whether you have any involvement with them and, if so, to disclose any Conflict of Interests? DanielRigal (talk) 13:54, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

I have no connection whatsoever to Stella O'Malley or Genspect. I've not got any other Wikipedia accounts.
I've got to say, I'm quite surprised by the reaction to my attempt to address deficiencies these articles. I came across them and had concerns about aspects of how certain material is presented, particularly in relation to sourcing, balance and WP:NPOV/BLP. To quote the page you just linked: "5. Advertising, marketing, publicity, or public relations. Information about companies and products must be written in an objective and unbiased style...".
I really would like it if people would engage with the substance of what I've presented, e.g. pointing to specific sources from reputable outlets, and not focus on ad hominem attacks. RiverArchivist2000 (talk) 14:26, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
