Altered photos

Please don't add your altered photo's to enwiki. There is no excuse for the alterations you made to these images, and they shouldn't be used in your versions. If someone smokes in a photo, then so be it. If someone's head or clothes are partially obscured, then again so be it, we don't try to reconstruct what it might have looked like. Considering that the original photo with the cigarette comes from a French site from the government, I don't think you have to worry about "avoiding promoting tobacco". If you worry that you might get in trouble using such a photo, then don't use it, but don't add an censored or altered one please. Fram (talk) 10:34, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
I do think there is a problem that the photo may well be copyrighted. In general, the site says "Les informations consultables sur la plateforme POP, ce comprenant les informations textuelles et multimédia, sont pour partie soumises, expressément ou supposément, au droit d’auteur et ne peuvent à ce titre être diffusées ou réutilisées par des tiers sans l’autorisation préalable de l’auteur ou des ayants droit.", and the specific page has "© Ministère de la Culture (France), Médiathèque du patrimoine et de la photographie, diffusion GrandPalaisRmn Photo". @Fram. There has been several debates about this. This is a well knowned copyfraud. See this article on “RAW" on frWP : "Sur Commons, le sauvetage des photos du studio Harcourt" . Studio Harcourt photographs before 1992 are PD. Tisourcier (talk) 10:47, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
