If your primary goal is to avoid being blocked (by a government, school, or workplace), simply changing your DNS is rarely enough. While some basic blocks work at the DNS level, sophisticated firewalls usually block the VPN connection itself.

To effectively bypass these blocks with Proton VPN, you should focus on these three features instead:

1. Use the "Stealth" Protocol (Most Effective)

Proton VPN developed a custom protocol called Stealth specifically to bypass "Deep Packet Inspection" (DPI), which is how modern firewalls identify and block VPN traffic.

What it does: It disguises your VPN traffic to look like regular, harmless web traffic (HTTPS).

How to enable it: Go to Settings > Connection > Protocol and select Stealth. (Available on Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android).

2. Enable "Alternative Routing"
