Your language question
Hi. I studied a year of Zulu. Nkosi is the vocative, or "address form" of the Zulu word for chief, or king. Off the top of my head I have no idea what "svamand" might mean. Zulu and its close relatives do not have consonant clusters like sv- and do not have syllables that end in consonants like -nd. But it is entirely possible to find contractions and vowel dropping in speech. So something like suvamandi could certainly come out sounding like s'vamand'. I suggest you visit isizulu.net and see if you can find some clues, it is extremely helpful and user friendly. Putting in "suvamandi" it suggests sivama; "be plentiful". If that's correct it would be "Be bountiful, O Lord". I can email my professor if it comes down to it. μηδείς (talk) 22:16, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
