Vanchi was a headquarters of the Chera dynasty, which ruled central Kerala and western Tamil Nadu (the Kongu country) in the early historic south India.[1][2] The location of Vanchi remains a matter of debate among historians.[3] It is speculated that the site corresponded to the medieval Vanchi Karur, identified modern Karur, Tamil Nadu.[3][2]
