Alleged involvement in 2017 killing
In 2017, a video circulated online showing Russian-speaking men torturing and killing a Syrian detainee at an industrial site.[2] The footage depicts the victim being beaten, including with a sledgehammer, and later killed.
Investigations by Novaya Gazeta and other media outlets used open-source analysis, social media comparisons, and leaked data to identify individuals allegedly involved.[3] Apostol was named in some of these reports as a suspected participant.
No public criminal trial has confirmed the identities or legal responsibility of those involved.
