Waco metropolitan area

The Waco, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB), is a metropolitan area consisting of McLennan, Falls and Bosque counties in Central Texas, anchored by the city of Waco.[1] As of the 2020 census, the metropolitan statistical area had a population of 295,782.[2] The population was estimated at 308,807 in 2025.[2]
History
When Standard Metropolitan Areas (predecessors of today's Metropolitan Statistical Areas) were introduced by the Bureau of the Budget (now the OMB) in 1950, the Waco SMA was defined as solely consisting of McLennan County.[3] Falls County was added to the statistical area in 2013.[4] Bosque County was added in 2023, giving the MSA its current three-county form.[1]
