In 2025, Simms died due to a drug overdose, which led to his single "Nope Your Too Late I Already Died" going viral worldwide and posthumously earning him over eight million monthly listeners on Spotify.[8] The single was certified gold in the United States, debuting and peaking at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also appeared on several other music charts around the world.[9]
Early life
Simms was born on July 24, 2003,[10] in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.[11]
Career
In the late 2010s, Simms gained popularity through a YouTube commentary channel under the name Cyrus.[11][12][13] Around this time, Simms began writing music under the aliases Fuxkcy,[12] Moody,[citation needed] and Secretsaturdays.[10] In the early 2020s, Simms began performing hyperpop[14] and sigilkore songs[15][14] under the alias *67 (or simply Star).[16][11] His work gained attention on streaming platforms and social media during the COVID-19 pandemic.[5][17][18]
Simms later gained recognition under the names Wifiskeleton and Skeleton Archive[16][17] (both stylized in lowercase), with Wifiskeleton being his primary alias. As Wifiskeleton, he co-founded the underground collective GothAngelz with fellow artists and collaborators Keepsecrets, Witchbox and Mandy.[17][10] Coverage of his work during this period describes his music as incorporating elements of emo rap,[7] lo-fi,[14] guitar music,[16] and hip-hop, creating a "digital underground"[7] sound. According to AllMusic, his lyrics often explored "extremely depressive themes of death, despair, self-harm, and other joyless topics".[11][5][19] In 2024-2025, he released over three mixtapes, including Lovefool, Suburban Daredevil and Pony.[17][20] Wifiskeleton released new music prolifically, but would sometimes remove large portions of his back catalog from streaming platforms without notice.[11] In 2025, Pitchfork published an article by writer Kieran Press-Reynolds which stated that Simms had allegations of grooming circulating online shortly before his death.[8]
Death
On May 5, 2025, Simms died in Miami, Florida, due to a drug overdose.[11][8] The report of his death was initially shared by fellow artist Witchbox in the GothAngelz Discord server,[3] stating that he was "already cold" when police and medics arrived.[17][18] On the day before he died, he appeared on an Instagram livestream in which he made statements indicating suicidal intent: "I’m finna pull up to the gas station and post addy on my story. If you wanna pull up and kill me, it’s the time to do it. If you wanna get a flick with me, it’s the time to do it. I’mma overdose tonight and kill myself", though he later insisted that he made the remark in jest.[2][17][5]
On May 7, 2025, Hallwood Recordings and 9th St. Records confirmed Simms' death in a statement reported by Billboard, describing him as "a rare soul whose art, energy and presence moved so many."[20] In the days following his death, Simms' Apple Music and Spotify accounts were compromised, resulting in the unauthorized upload of a track titled "Cinco de Mayo Was a Nightmare Lol". The upload was later removed. [21]
Impact
According to Pitchfork writer Kieran Press-Reynolds, Wifiskeleton became a stylistic reference point within the "online indie music boom" and "new wave of SoundCloud 'indie rock'".[8] Artist Ayowitty stated that a new wave of musicians were making "Wifiskeleton type songs" and replicating his sound to the point of cliche,[8] with fellow artist Bunii adding that artists imitating Wifiskeleton's sound were popular across TikTok.[8]

"Nope Your [sic] Too Late I Already Died" (stylized in sentence case; initially named "Carve Out My Left Eye Idiot"[‡ 1]) is a song by American musicians Wifiskeleton and I Wanna Be a Jack-o-Lantern. It was released on September 27, 2024, via SoundCloud,[‡ 1] and later on October 22, 2024, on streaming platforms[‡ 2] through 9th St. and Hallwood.[22] It appears on Wifiskeleton's 2024 mixtape[17] Suburban Daredevil.[‡ 2][20]
The song gained widespread attention in May 2025, starting on the first day of the month when TikToker Rex Lengyel uploaded a parody titled "Nope You're Too Late I'm Already Dad". In the clip, Lengyel performed the song in the voices of animated sitcom characters Bob Belcher, Peter Griffin, Homer Simpson, and Stan Smith. The video drew attention for the line, "If you see me out in Quahog, say hi," with the full parody being released shortly afterward.[23]
The song went viral on TikTok[17] and became their first song to chart, debuting and peaking at number 91 on the Billboard Hot 100.[24][20] Following Wifiskeleton's death around the same time due to a drug overdose,[2][14] Pitchfork mentioned in an article that the song saw a surge in global popularity and streaming activity.[8]
