Questionable whether it meets WP:NBIO. Amigao (talk) 17:21, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment: this has been tagged as a potential NBIO failure since October 2020–the month of creation, so the questions surrounding the notability (or lack thereof) have existed all along. (No opinion.) WCQuidditch 01:15, 10 May 2026 (UTC)

  • Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:

People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.

    • If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

The subject is covered on pages 67–72 of the book. The book notes: "Chen, Tse-liu (岑澤鎏 Shum, Tsak-lau in Cantonese) was born in Yanping, Canton Province, in 1910. He graduated from Class 6 of the Canton Aviation Academy and served in the Cantonese Provincial Air Force. Chen has been described by those who served with him as a patriotic nationalist who put national interests above provincial rivalries. Indeed, he had been one of the leaders of the mass defection of the Cantonese Air Force to the Central Air Force during the KwangtungKwanghsi Crisis in 1936. After being integrated into the Central Air Force, Chen was assigned to the 8th PS/3rd PG, flying CR.32s. During the 15 August 1937 attack on Nanking by the Kisarazu Kokutai, Chen, in CR.32 No 806, and his flight leader, Lt Harry Low from Portland, Oregon, chased an IJNAF bomber to the south of Nanking and claimed to have shot it down near Li-shui. ... Chen was later promoted to command the 17th PS after it was transferred to the 5th PG. ... Chen was promoted to deputy commander of the 5th PG in 1940, and in December of that year the group re-equipped with I-15III fighters to counter the A6M Zero-sens that the IJNAF had introduced into combat earlier in 1940. ... Chen was killed in action over Chengtu on 14 March 1941 when he led his squadron of I-15IIIs into combat against Zero-sens. Lured down to low altitude by a group of A6Ms strafing Shuangliu airfield, he and both of his two wingmen were shot down."

      The book notes: "岑泽鎏( ? -1941 )早年从军,入广东航空学校第 6 期。毕业后,参加国民党空军,任第 5 大队副大队长。抗战爆发后,积极投身抗战。先后在淞沪会战、武汉保卫战中同日机作战,屡建战功。 1941 年 3 月 14 日,在成都双流与日机激战中壮烈牺牲。国民政府追赠中校。"

From Google Translate: "Cen Zeliu (?–1941) enlisted in the military early in his career, entering the 6th Class of the Guangdong Aviation School. Upon graduation, he joined the Nationalist Air Force, serving as Deputy Commander of the 5th Group. Following the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he actively dedicated himself to the war effort. He engaged in combat against Japanese aircraft during both the Battle of Shanghai and the Defense of Wuhan, repeatedly distinguishing himself in battle. On March 14, 1941, he made the ultimate sacrifice during a fierce aerial battle against Japanese forces over Shuangliu, Chengdu. The Nationalist Government posthumously promoted him to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel."

From Google Translate: "In the 8th Squadron—from Squadron Leader Chen Youwei downward—the toll of dead and wounded was so heavy that, in the end, only one man remained: Flight Leader Cen Zeliu (6th graduating class of the Guangdong Aviation School). Yet his fighting spirit remained undiminished; day after day, he stayed at the Nanjing Dajiaochang Airfield, steadfastly guarding his Boeing fighter plane and refusing to stray from his combat post. Whenever enemy aircraft attacked—even when he was the sole pilot in the sky—he would rise to the challenge as usual, never losing heart. He continued to fight until his aircraft was finally shot down in mid-air; remarkably, however, he was neither killed nor wounded in the incident. In the days that followed, he would go on to perform many more heroic deeds. Nevertheless, the designation of the 8th Group—much like that of the 7th Group—ultimately met the fate of being officially struck from the rolls of the Chinese Air Force."

      The book notes: "岑泽鎏广东省恩平县, 1911 年 9 月出生,广东航空学校第 6 期甲班毕业。任空军第 5 大少校副大队 长,曾击落敌机 4 /架"

From Google Translate: "Cen Zeliu: Native of Enping County, Guangdong Province; born in September 1911; graduated from Class A of the 6th Intake at the Guangdong Aviation School. Served as a Major and Deputy Group Commander of the 5th Group of the Air Force; credited with shooting down 4 enemy aircraft"

There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Chen Tse-liu (traditional Chinese: 岑澤鎏; simplified Chinese: 岑泽鎏) to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

  • Keep' this is a cultural figure with what appears to be regional significance. Fine, the article is thin and the sources currently cited are weak. That's an editing problem, not a deletion problem. Cunard has already grabbed a good portion of reliable sourses, should be enough now. And so the buck stops (talk) 14:24, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
Keep but improve per above The current state of the article is in an early stage, and Cunard has pointed out more sources and details which definitely needs to be added, the current article doesn’t even talk about his death, or his career.
