    KEEP. The 4 appearance figure only accounts for the WE League while she plays for Kobe, and does not count other appearances such as League Cup. She still appears in the Nadeshiko League Division 1 and I could find a post match interview recently. The Japanese wiki page just stopped updating her appearances after she left Kobe.
    After searching for interviews and news for Kawano, it appears that she captures media interest because of her outstanding performance in college football, getting a treble, and defeating professional club. It should be noted that Japan sees college and high school competition very seriously. (For e.g. Japanese High School Baseball Championship is the most anticipated baseball matches in Japan.) She also plays in the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and led the team to a third place finish, a great achievement in itself. I am sure a more in depth search could uncover even more stories.     Media coverage, including radio interview and pre-match interview before World Cup, suggests she is one of the more successful women football player in Japan. The reason used for nomination: "4 professional appearance", has been refuted. She currently has more than 90 match appearances and scored near 30 goals, including lots of decisive goals. Per my assessment of the sources, I lean towards Delete, as one source will not cut it per WP:THREE. Refbombing is not gonna cut it either. I am just going to put this paragraph here, which I intend to use as a case study:
To see systemic sexism at work, look no further than Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Juri Kawano.
Despite knowing the serious gender inequality in Japan, and that sports journalism overwhelmingly favors men's football over women's football, the male editors decided that they would erase senior professional sportswomen history from Wikipedia, making discovery more difficult, and further reinforcing systematic sexism caused by hegemonic masculinity. Make no mistake, the sportswoman is erased not because of WP:Interview or WP:Notability, but because the editors deliberately chose to propose, then nominate, the article for deletion and then refuse to see the issue at hand. I will cite a famous bad example in the treatment of women football players in Japan. The men's international team can fly in business class while the women's international team, despite having better results, have to fly in economy class.[1] It was only after public uproar that the women's team were upgraded to business class.
In the page Women's professional sports, it was stated clearly that it is much more difficult to watch women's professional sports than men's sports. For e.g., and I quote, "It may seem like there were advancements made in the coverage of women's hockey, but in 2019, it became apparent it was not that easy to watch women's hockey on your television." @Arutoria A gentle reminder that WP:AGF is a policy guideline on wikipedia. Everyone here is doing the best they know how to build the encyclopedia productively in accordance with our community guidelines. I think too that you need to refresh yourself on WP:NOTABILITY policy and take a step back and look at it objectively. The problems of cultural hegemony and the patriarchy can't be solved here entirely because as an encyclopedia we are limited in what we write by what has been reliably published. WP:SBEXT bias is a real thing in women's sports, and we often come up against a wall because women don't get the same amount of attention by journalists, sportswriters, and academics as they deserve. That in turn impacts what sorts of articles we are able write/include per WP:GNG/WP:SPORTSBASIC. It is tempting to argue to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS, but in the end that view is regarded as a fallacy at AFD. After the RFC at WP:NSPORT sourcing requirements for all sports biographies, including those for men, were majorly tightened and we have seen a ton of sports bios get deleted as a result (most of them men because we had a ton more articles on men). In the end, the only winning argument at AFD is going to be a source based evidence argument because that is what our policies here demand and its not negotiable.4meter4 (talk) 06:26, 13 September 2025 (UTC)
I did assume good faith, at least initially.
But the person nominating this deletion also tried to delete this one: Fukina Mizuno (you can see that in the talk page, and I also left a comment there) which is even more ridiculous considering she was rookie player of the year in her professional debuting year and got into list of best players of the year in 2024-25.
It was clear to me the user nominating the page did not attempt to do thorough research on the topic. For e.g., you can see the original reason used for the deletion being said is that Kawano is "Japanese women footballer with only 4 professional match". So I went ahead to do the research and found that to be completely wrong. If I didn't, this article wouldn't even be discussed, it would have been deleted already!

Why didn't they follow the guideline and at least try to improve the article or do some basic research before the nomination? I understand the language and I also know where to find Japanese news, but I don't have unlimited time to play defense on all Japanese women football players. And I can't assume good faith after the nominator failed more than once to do their basic due diligence on the topic. If we encourage this kind of behavior, a lot of pages which has the potential to be good articles will be deleted. Arutoria (talk) 13:50, 13 September 2025 (UTC)

  • Delete Sadly. Fails WP:SPORTSBASIC per the accurate source assessment table above. While WP:SYSTEMICBIAS is a real thing we have to go by our guideline at NSPORT as regards to referencing per the RFC ruling which strictly tightened sourcing requirements for ALL sports biographies, including women in sports. I further caution editors to follow WP:AGF and not throw accusations around at other editors that can 1. Prevent honest discussion 2. Create a toxic work environment at AFD. I suggest those wanting to keep this attempt to find better sources and bring them here so that the article can be rescued. I will happily change my vote if/when that happens. Note to closer. Relisting comment: Having read hundreds of !votes from the participants here, I've seen no evidence of a systematic gender bias from them. While we're all aware of sexism in sports and elsewhere, we are not here to WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. Please refrain from casting aspersions upon fellow editors, and stick to our notability guidelines.

Did you even read the table?
The sources are mostly reliable (only one was said to be unreliable and that one can be deleted without affecting the article). Miminity just thinks some of them are interviews or are from official websites. Arutoria (talk) 03:18, 16 September 2025 (UTC)

    According to Miminity's table, the article has at worst 1.5-2 reliable sources. That's not great, but it's not nothing either. WP:THREE is just an essay, it's not a policy.
