Fails WP:NSONG, utterly lacking in-depth discussion in the media. A thorough search for sources returns only automated listings. Redirect to Godsmack (album). Binksternet (talk) 22:54, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

- Comment - I know charting isn't everything, but I find it hard to believe there isn't coverage for a song that was the fifth most popular rock song in the US for a period. Doubly so when it happened before the internet era. Sergecross73 msg me 23:08, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - This song was the fifth most popular rock song in the US Bink. It charted higher than songs like Velcro Fly, if we are going to question this one, we should question most of ZZ Top singles as well--5.169.119.103 (talk) 23:18, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- "Velcro Fly" has stuff written about it, for instance this piece. Guinness Book of World Records praised the song in 1995, and Rough Guide to Rock wrote about it in 1996. Not so much for Keep Away which just has chart listings. I support your suggestion of questioning any singles that are not discussed in the literature. Binksternet (talk) 02:15, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Redirect unless more coverage is found. I'm as surprised as the other two respondents that you couldn't find anything for a band this huge. Unfortunately I couldn't find much either. There's a choice interview quote here which might be good to add, but otherwise I'm only getting charts and passing mentions among other songs. I wanna believe there's more out there that just hasn't been archived online, but without that we can't keep this page. QuietHere (talk) 06:42, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - After searching Google Books, I was able to find that the song is quoted and named in an obscure self-published book about a fictional school shooter[1] and that the song was used in an academic study.[2] Make of that what you will. CJ-Moki (talk) 07:35, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

- Redirect to Godsmack per QuietHere. I agree with all the comments; it's somewhat surprising that a song that charted as highly as it did when it did doesn't have any notable coverage, but I've also been unable to find much. There's some coverage around an award it won (Outstanding Song on a Major Label) at the Boston Music Awards (; ProQuest access required but avail via WP:TWL) but that doesn't appear to be any form of
significant awards or honors
and it's only a passing mention in the articles I found, which are mostly about the band or the awards show. As literally everyone has noted, charting alone doesn't say enough. - Comment - @GSWikiChampion: You seem to be an expert on this band. Do you know any sources proving notability for this song? CJ-Moki (talk) 02:20, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @CJ-Moki - I do not. Well, not to the extent that it was allegedly the fifth most popular rock song in the US for <insert period of time here>. That said, I found two articles that might be worth referencing:
- http://www.cnn.com/SHOWBIZ/Music/9904/22/godsmack/index.html: WAFF played the song long before its release as a single which massively increased album sales at the only store that would agree to carry the album at the time
- https://www.pauseandplay.com/godsmack-cracks-the-hard-rock-world/: The song's success put Godsmack on the radar and eventually got them signed to the Paul Geary Management company
- More on the two bullet points above can be found here: https://books.google.com/books?id=_NNmFiUnSmUC&pg=PA1438&lpg=PA1438&dq=%22PAUL+GEARY%22%2B%22Keep+away%22&source=bl&ots=JdqUBs1g-s&sig=ACfU3U04ExfXt6dD7HVqZQ8yXy9yuWmuEA&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjA0J--op77AhU5DkQIHSQqDDg4FBDoAXoECBwQAw#v=onepage&q=%22PAUL%20GEARY%22%2B%22Keep%20away%22&f=false

- Leaning keep per SBKSPP. BD2412 T 03:59, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- @BD2412 to be frank, I don't really understand what SBKSPP saw in the sources presented. If they're talking about the ones CJ-Moki posted, there's a reason I was so quick to say "No" to those. And if they're talking about the award Dylnuge, they said themself that they didn't think it was significant enough. And the only other source shared before that comment was in an off-topic comment about a ZZ Top song which has nothing to do with this AfD. And though they were posted after, I don't see notability in what GSWiki shared either (nor do they apparently). QuietHere (talk) 12:28, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

- Keep I also found this source, which mentions the song's popularity, style and some of the back story behind it. I suspect there would be more coverage, especially if one were to go through the print sources, given the release date. It is frequently described as the single which launched the band to prominence, so that would also increase the notability of the song itself. Chagropango (talk) 13:24, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
